I'm installing BOINC in a friend's laptop, but i'm not sure if i should enable "Do work while on battery" mode, because i don't know if it will drain the battery faster.

If your are running BOINC full throttle it will use more power than doing nothing. The best thing is always trying. If it doesn't work out try throttling down BOINC.

It will definitely drain the battery faster. I'm speaking of a factor of 3 to 6 (depends on other load and on type of battery).
