I installed 6.6.4 over 6.6.3 and noticed immediately that it was stuck in a loop, decrementing down by 5, then 10 seconds and back to 5

ie:
24:00:00 down to 23:59:55
back to 24:00:00
24:00:00 down to 23:59:51
back to 24:00:00
the repeat down to that 55 sec tick

or something like this hi res 2mb avi
It is trying to communicate with seti beta which is not up. Normally I recall boinc backing off with the back off getting bigger. This time it is starting over after 10 seconds. No big deal other then filling up the message dialog box with the same messages.

My mistake was requesting an update without checking to see if seti beta was up. Once I requested that update it is stuck in a loop attempting the update.

Answer from David Anderson on the Alpha email list (the correct place to report these things):

Thanks - this will be fixed in 6.6.5
