I instaled a new driver (180.22 with WHQL, i had the beta 180.22, without a clean instal). instaled boinc 6.4.5 and nothing happend. stil the same message apeared. i don;t know what to do anymore... i'm clueless... please help!!

That's your problem. Under Vista BOINC should not be installed as a service, as then CUDA will NOT work. You are warned about this in the installer!

i deselected all the options in the instaler and it still is instaled as a service. i also had problems with the service.. before this recent problem my problem was that boinc refused to do any work becouse the service wouln't start at all. i fixed the problem by seting a new pasword to the user boinc_manager in the manage menu of my computer. and then set the pasword in the service menu of the boinc service and it worked.. boinc started doing work pot no GPU work, just CPU work

The above two bold lines show you run as a service.
You will have to uninstall BOINC through Add/Remove Programs, then reinstall it. Now in the third screen in the installer, click the Advanced button.
You'll see a check before "Protected Applications Execution" .. which is the service install. In BOINC 6.6.2 you will have a Vista specific warning (this one only shows in Vista) that you should not run BOINC as a service (or with the PAE option) when you intend to use CUDA. So take the check mark off of the option, and continue your installation.

There shouldn't be a service still in the services applet. If you have that window open to check on BOINC, make sure to close and reopen it.

Else you'll have to be more clear in your description of what you see, or think you see.

What do you mean, restarted? You reinstalled BOINC? How?

As I said, in the 3rd screen in the installer, which looks something like this:

Click the Advanced button.

You'll then end up on:

Where you take the check mark off of the Protected Application Execution option.

Did you stop the daemon (service part) of BOINC before Exiting from the BOINC manager?
BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Shut down connected client->OK->Cancel (followed by BOINC Manager->File->Exit)

I'VE DONE IT!!! NO CUDA DEVICE FOUND message anymore!!!. my brother came up with the solution. i uninstalled boinc manager, disabled the boinc service, and then entered regedit and deleted ALL boinc entries that could be deleted. after that i rebooted and installed boinc 6.6.2. it's wired that my project remained and all my settings!! i don't have to do a thing.

I do have a similar issue under Gentoo X64. I have a Nvidia 8800GT card, but the GUI client says No CUDA devices found. My boinc installation is compiled with the CUDA option, and at start-up it is loaded automatically with the /etc/init.d/boinc start script. Is the Vista issue a problem also with Linux? If yes, how do you suggest I load Boinc at start-up?

Thanks.

I've just solved my CUDA problem on Fedora 10. This may also work for Gentoo.

There are two problems, firstly the RPM doesn't include the libcudart.so in /var/lib/boinc which is used for the data store for BOINC. I downloaded the latest CUDA SDK from nVidia and put a link in /var/lib/boinc to the libcudart.so in the SDK.

The second problem is that the boot script that starts the BOINC client runs the process as the "boinc" user. This user does not have permission to access the /dev/nvidia* devices and so cannot find the CUDA devices.

To fix it:
groupadd -r gpu
usermod -G gpu boinc

Then create a file with the following content as
/etc/security/console.perms.d/60-nvidia-gpu.perms
<gpu>=/dev/nvidia*
<console> 0660 <gpu> 0660 root.gpu

You can then logout and login again, or
pam_console_apply -r /dev/nvidia*; pam_console_apply /dev/nvidia*

to reset the device permissions.

Restart boinc client, e.g.
service boinc-client restart
or
/etc/init.d/boinc stop; /etc/init.d/boinc start

Then check the messages to see if BOINC can now see your CUDA devices.
