I have a couple of ubuntu systems that the default is to use the "USA server" repository. Boinc showes up in the synaptic manager as 5.10.45 and the install is easy. On one system I downloaded the linux package direct from boinc, think it was 6.2.x and managed to get it to work. It was not easy (point and click) like the synaptic package manager.

Is there another repository that I can use to get me more recent updates to boinc using the synaptic package manager? There is a pull downlist of available repositories (I am using 8.04) but I dont know which, if any, have newer boinc manager and client packages.

TIA

The problem with using the repositories is that more recent versions of boinc from Ubuntu may be compiled using newer libraries than your Ubuntu version has installed which can cause boinc to not run properly.

The get deb page has more recent versions which have been compiled against the libraries available on the Ubuntu version it is listed for. Just download the .deb package you want, and then install it. They install files into the same directories that the synaptic packages do, so upgrading should be automatic.

Thanks, that is exactly what I am looking for. I read thru some of the comments (32bit hardy for one) and it seems there is a bit of tweaking still to do.
