Message 33483 - Posted: 22 Jun 2010, 1:23:47 UTC - in response to Message 33478.

I got Windows 7 Ultimate in on Saturday
<snip?
But I am still trying to get to grips with this version of Windows. When coming from XP, it's a big difference.
I had a pure XP Pro fleet until a couple of months ago, when I added a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium.

The one crucial tweak which took W7 from a pain of excess popups to mostly rather nice for use for me was turning off UAC. I already run COMODO, which protects from many of the same things, and, rather crucially, remembers my answers, so I felt fairly safe in turning it off.

Of course your annoyances and safe path may vary. The other thing that troubled me was the rather different way W7 and XP handled shared files on a personal network. I have no easy answers for that one, however.

A lot of changes, deep in the program, so be careful.

1.90 August 2010
# Changed: Show NVIDIA and AMD/ATI cards in mixed systems.
# Changed: The max number of GPU cards is 6.
# Changed: Add __ati as default to the GPU list, when empty.
# Changed: The mini window width is better calculated.
# Changed: Revised driver V 2.0 that can handle more than 8 cores.
# Changed: Adaptable temperature read from driver, reading only the cores needed.
# Changed: The maximum number of temperature cores is 8, the maximum number of virtual cores is 16.
# Fixed: RNA World puts play.exe in a slot. TThrottle added everything with play in it, like wmplayer.exe to the CPU list.

1.91 August 2010
# Changed: Translation updates.
# Fixed: AMD processors logged one temperature core less, that actually present. This Processor has (4) 0 Cores with a temperature sensor. Should be 1 instead of 0.

# Changed: Updated NVIDIA libraries.
# Changed: Drastically reduced TThrottle overhead, on some systems with NVIDIA cards and WIN 7.
# Fixed: The Run time bar wasn't working properly.

# 2.10 August 2010 Changed: Now tells BoincTasks how many NVIDIA and ATI cards are present, for correct temperature assignment.
# Fixed: Some CPU's are looping in the temperature detection. Don't use the detector on known CPU's. Take known default values for: 1/2 cores Intel = 1/2 sensors, 1/2 cores Amd = 1/1 sensor.
# Fixed: The ATI Gpu temperature was not read properly.

# New: Read the information about running tasks, directly from the BOINC client.
# Changed: Allow programs to be throttled on both CPU and GPU. +_abp2cuda will include the exe in the CPU and GPU throttling.

Message 35819 - Posted: 20 Nov 2010, 18:16:51 UTC - in response to Message 35735.

Stupid question:
Is it possible to limit the gpu?
For ex. If I set 25% GPU on a GTX 580 which has 16 SM. Could tthrottle tell the gpu to use only SM 13, 14, 15 & 16?

Probably not absolute.
The file C:\Program Files\eFMer\TThrottle\examples tthrottle.xml, move it to
C:\Program Files\eFMer\TThrottle\

Remove the comment around:

<GPU_SETUP>
<gpu_percentage_min> 5 </gpu_percentage_min>
<gpu_percentage_max> 75 </gpu_percentage_max>
</GPU_SETUP>

And set the max value to something less than 100.

Yup, it's working on a 2600XT card.
Only thing it's not constant (I sett 40% and I'm getting gpu spies from 5 to 90%)
Can you please make binary builds of tthrottle? InstallDriver seems to be working very well when copy pasting tthrottle to another computer ;)

You can use programs like the Universal Extractor to extract the exe.
The problem is there are exe and dll's specific to a 32 or 64 bit system.
And the new 3.x version needs the right exe and dll's together.
The installer is basically an extractor of the right files you need.
Only the installer is started, to make sure the right driver is installed.

I remember asking you about Universal Extractor, and now I understand that it's more easier for other people to use the installer.
gpu_percentage is working also on a Quadro FX 580.
Problem is, when using collatz on full load, temp goes up 18 deg.
When I limited the gpu at 20%, temperature rose 10 degrees, so it's not that proportional or the limiter it's not that efficient.
For your next version my wish list would be:
1. separate 32 & 64 bit zip builds for beta versions
2. Programs windows for separate cpu & gpu:
CPU GPU
Running CPU Running GPU
Max CPU % Max GPU %
Min CPU % Min GPU %
Core T Core T
Set Core Set Core
3. limit somehow the shaders or bigger entitites like SM.
For ex, if Windows is using the first SM to render the screen, maybe tthrottle can use the last SM only for boinc (this is the last thing to do maybe, but it would be nice though :))

# 3.20 March 2011
# Changed: Throttling is now using a random scattering pattern, to avoid simultaneous throttling of all cores.
# Changed: The default minimum CPU throttle value is 2%, was 5%.
# Changed: All exe and dll files are now signed.
# Fixed: Stress(64).exe is no longer using the side by side dll's. no longer using the side by side dll's.
