When attempting to install Boinc on my new Ubuntu system, I have been unable to open the install file. This is the error message that comes up when attempting to open the file.

"Could not open the file boin….4.5_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh.

gedit has not been able to detect the character coding.
Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a character coding from the menu and try again."

The Character Coding options are :

Current Locale (UTF-8) and
Western (ISO-8859-15)

I have tried both coding options with the same resulting error.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks a lot. Great Instructions.

I tried the Synaptic Package Manager and found it, and "installed" it...but did not get anywhere with that. Probably user error on my part. Still new to Ubuntu and Linux.

After that, I just used the command line text from the "Terminal" and everything went just fine.
