What exactly is Error 417? What does it mean and how do I fix it?

Error 417 is an HTTP error.

For solutions look in this thread on the Seti forums.

Okay - I got this much:

To force BOINC to use HTTP 1.0 do as follows:

Create a cc_config.xml in your BOINC folder with the following contents:
<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
</options>
</cc_config>

Restart BOINC (reboot is easiest) for them to take effect

Do I just create this cc_config.xml file or is there already one in existence in my BOINC folder? Would I just write it using the text editor and leave it in the main BOINC folder?

Open Notepad, then copy into it:

<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
</options>
</cc_config>

Then save the file, naming it cc_config.xml to your BOINC Data directory (Default at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ ). Make sure you use the "all files" option to save the file with, but do check it in the directory on not getting the .TXT extension. If it did, rename it so it only has the .XML extension.

Then exit BOINC and restart it. To exit BOINC if it runs as a service, BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Shut down connected client->OK->Cancel followed by BOINC Manager->File->Exit.

To restart it again, Start->Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager link

If it isn't running as a service, just go BOINC Manager->File->Exit followed by Start->Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager link

Message 21843 - Posted: 15 Dec 2008, 19:54:36 UTC - in response to Message 21817.

In my BOINC folder I see this:

locale folder and then 22 files starting with boinc.dll and ending with zlib1.dll

Inside of the locale folder are a bunch of folders with names like af_ZA to zh_TW.

So where exactly do I put this file?

Disregard my last post. I did a more extensive search and found the folder and followed your steps and it seems to be working. It's downloaded new work anyway. Thanks for all your help!
