Installed Windows XP SP3 on a computer and noticed the following line that never seen before. [Running as as daemon] Where did that come from?
The other computers do not have that and running the same version of Boinc on them. One is a Vista. Put in the V8 optimiser and it downloaded new tasks and marked the other ones as client detached. Also, see there is a new folder now as Boinc_master in the Docuements and settings folder. Have never had this before now even when Boinc installed last month. So what changed using the same version (6.2.19) and on the same computer? every thing was a fresh install. Any ideas ,help or info on this would be appreciated.

The default installation using BOINC 6.2 is the protected application execution, meaning the service install. Another word for that is daemon (mostly used on *nix systems).

Since it was a fresh installation, there was nothing in the registry pointing out that a previous version of BOINC was not installed as a service. In the installer, you should've clicked the Advanced button on the third screen in, and taken the check off of the PAE option to install as the previous single/multi user installation option.

You can only get out of it by uninstalling BOINC through Add/Remove Programs, then reinstalling it and taking the check off of the PAE option under the Advanced button.

As for your other question about the BOINC_Master folder, that's a Windows thing. Windows makes those folders automatically for all new accounts on the system. It's not really used for anything and would you try to remove it, it'll be remade at a next reboot. So it's nothing to worry about.

Ok. Can buy the no previous version found since I did a fresh install of XP/SP3. Must be something new in V6 because I never did a fresh install of that version before. I never have checked or unchecked anything in the advance before so are you saying that is what I need to do the next time or can I leave as is? And which way is better? Dont see that option now in the advance or it in during the install? Dont remember since never did pay any attention to the advance settings. I have three more computers to redo.

That depends on if you want to install BOINC as a service or not. The next version of BOINC (6.4) does not install as a service by default, as apparently that breaks the capability to use the GPU with CUDA under Vista.

Did you read any of the FAQs I pointed at in that thread? As you will find a lot of answers there.

A big plus of running as service is that BOINC continues to run even when no one is logged in. It starts running before Windows logon.
