(I really did try to search the forums first but didn't find an answer so please don't hurt me :P)

Ok, I know Seti@home is having issues with keeping up with ULs and DLs but I haven't had a single successful UL or DL in almost a week!

I noticed a news post on Seti's homepage stating, "November 26, 2005 Windows users: if you were having problems attaching to SETI@home, please download new client software (5.2.12) and try again. We have fixed some problems involving personal Internet Firewalls."

I was wondering if this might help alleviate some of the problems I am having.

Here's the catch, I have ~25 uncounted work units waiting to be uploaded and I want to know whether or not they will be lost if I upgrade to the latest version of Boinc. I tried it last night but it seemed like everything was lost so I [restored] XP and got everything back. Did I do something wrong or this normally what happens when you upgrade/update your version of BOINC?

Thanks a ton,
Kharn

Kharn,

Upgrade process depends upon the version of Boinc that you are currently running - 4.19, or newer-than-4.19. In either case, no work should be lost.

If you are running 4.19, or let's say earlier-than-4.45 you should first uninstall via Add/Remove Programs (or whatever is the proper procedure for your OS, without manually deleting anything in the Boinc folder. Then you can install 5.2.13, taking care to consider the installer options and their ramifications.

If you are currently running version 4.45 or newer, it's even simpler - you don't have to uninstall anything, just install the new version over-the-top, again, giving consideration to the installer options, etc.

I am running 5.2.2.

Ok, so when I upgraded did I do something wrong because all of my non-uploaded completed work units seemed to disappear. Did I simply not just wait long enough for it to find those work units?

I am NOT talking about w/units that have already been reported and credit earned. I know I won't lose those.

Nevermind, I figured out the problem. Like a total tard I had two instances of BOINC installed in two different locations. I installed the update to the default which is NOT where I had my actual install located.

Thanks for your help anyways,
Kharn
