I run Linux boinc, but it outputs to my console, interrupting and obscuring my typing. 'grep -r "boinc" *' in /var/log shows nothing (does it have different names?) How can I shut off or redirect boinc's output? Maybe it is among other output I want to shut off or redirect, but I cannot find if it is already logged or what process does it....

Have you started boinc from the same console? How?
Try boinc --daemon (see Client configuration (advanced) - Command-line options). I believe it should then redirect its output (to boinc.log file?)
