Message 21108 - Posted: 3 Nov 2008, 14:44:44 UTC - in response to Message 21089.

I have a similar problem. I had not checked my progress in a few days, and noticed that one of my computers hadn't received any units for many days. I shut down the computer, rebooted, and then when it was fully up it requested new units, but received 0 new tasks initially. Overnight, it seems to have received a few new units, but it is not building up a backlog of units as usual. My settings are set to use the preferences on the account, and the other computers are using them as well without problem.

I saw that my boinc client was somewhat out of date, so I upgrade all computers to .19 . The other computers continued to function normally, but the one computer that had no new tasks continues to request new units, but receive little or none. I have let it cycle through the normal automated process, as well as used the GUI to 'update' project. In the following logs you will see it is indeed 'seeing' that it should be receiving more work units, even requests them, but none are sent.

I suspect the server side is somehow holding back work...

Log from point update of client forward:

BOINC ON for a number of days without cruncher will probably have destroyed various parms that determine how much work was done recently. Reset the project and good chance is it goes running again.

Well, how much work was done recently shouldn't matter since my settings are to always run, using 100% of resources, and to request enough units to cover several days of non-communication. Typically, depending on the client, I have about 20+ work units queued up on this particular client.

Resetting the project I assume means cleaning up local computer things- not the server. Since my messages show "Requesting 18322 seconds of work" it is clear my computer knows it needs more units to stay primed for work, even when there are network / server outages.

Again, my other 4 clients continue to function properly. I suppose resetting the project can't do much harm, since currently it only has the units it is actually computing on. I will wait 12 hrs to see what happens during the day, and then try that this evening.

Still, it seems like it's a server side problem since my request for units is being made, just not being acted on.

Decided not to wait, and issued the reset project. Lost 2 work units, but it's not a big deal. Problem still exists:

This clearly shows:

1) Network communication is functioning all the way to the project server.
2) Client Preferences are set, and new work is required and requested
3) Server answers request, with 0 new units.

"...noticed that one of my computers hadn't received any units for many days" no work and 4.5 days buffer request. No word in the log if work was not available. Have you checked at SETI?

Notice I said *1* of my computers. In the same period of time, 4 others received many work units.

In any case, at least now there are 2 work units in backlog, 2 being worked on. I suppose eventually it will get back to the number that is required to meet the metric set in my preferences.
