Computation error / Output file absent / process exited with code 22 (0x16, -234)

von_Wanderlust Send message Joined: 31 Oct 08 Posts: 4	Message 21080 - Posted: 2 Nov 2008, 10:55:37 UTC Ciao, I've setup BOINC on my Linux box (it's a Thinkpad T43 running Arch btw) but am having trouble getting it to run correctly. It connects to projects and downloads fine, appears to run the jobs (much too quickly for it to be computing the job), but finishes with errors. This is happening on multiple projects (WCGrid, CPDN, Rosetta@home). I have checked everything I can find on the wiki (including trying the Fedora options (chmod /var/lib/boinc etc)), but I can't solve it. I've got a lot of info to share below, although the main gist of what's going on is just near the top here. This is what I see once the job has 'completed': In the Tasks tab of BOINC Manager, it shows progress as being 100%, with a 'Computation error' message in the Status column. In the Messages (see below) it states 'Computation for task xyz finished', and follows with 'Output file xyz_0 for task xyz absent' In the stats of the different projects I can see the error: 'process exited with code 22 (0x16, -234)'. I googled that this error code is a generic code, but hoping that this '-234' may help you narrow it down. If this is bug and not a setup issue, let me know, I'll add it to the tracker and send more info as you need it. Thanks for the replies thus far. :-) OK, I swapped on but the errors still occur. (Good idea, as soon as you mentioned it I thought it was the one - no luck though.) 1) I installed via the Arch repo's using the Pacman installer. FYI, boinc runs as a daemon, creates boinc user (which owns /var/lib/boinc), and I've manually added myself to the boinc group using gpasswd. 2) Yes, I was having these problems prior to following the Fedora options. I tried those just in case, but have since reversed them. I have also tried using ldd as per the link that was provided, but get the following back: wcg_faah_autodock_6.06_i686-pc-linux-gnu: ldd: warning: you do not have execution permission for `./wcg_faah_autodock_6.06_i686-pc-linux-gnu' not a dynamic executable So there are no missing libraries. But, it's saying I don't have execution permission for the files? This I can't get my head around. FYI, the directory and files are owned by boinc (I added my user to the the boinc group and reconfirmed it again now by checking /etc/group). When running ldd as root, or even su-ing into the boinc account ldd still came back with the same message about execution permissions. I had hardened my filesystem by making /var partition noexec in fstab, which of course is why nothing can be executed in /var/lib/boinc.
