I always get "communication deferred" status for LHC@home. I tried out SETI@home to see if it worked with that, but i get the same problem. Linux x86.
I heard that boinc uses port 80, and that computer also serves as an HTTP server. Could that be the problem? If not, what is and how do I solve it?

Thanks

BOINC communicates with the project servers on port 80 and 443, so you need to enable BOINC through your firewall on those ports.

So, that explains why ABC didn't send work. Remains the question why your PC didn't request any.

According to Dagorath, this is normal for LHC. However, my log entries for SETI looked like this last night:
24/09/2008 04:21:20|SETI@home|[sched_op_debug] Starting scheduler request
24/09/2008 04:21:20|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 918 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
24/09/2008 04:21:25|SETI@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks
24/09/2008 04:21:25|SETI@home|[sched_ops_debug] Server version 603
24/09/2008 04:21:25|SETI@home|Project requested delay of 11.000000 seconds
24/09/2008 04:21:25|SETI@home|[sched_op_debug] Deferring communication for 12 min 46 sec
24/09/2008 04:21:25|SETI@home|[sched_op_debug] Reason: no work from project

If you want to get the same additional messages, you must create a text file named cc_config.xml in your BOINC data directory (if it doesn't exist already). The data directory is mentioned in the message tab of BOINC manager.
With a text editor, enter the following into that file:
<cc_config>
    <log_flags>
        <sched_op_debug>1</sched_op_debug>
    </log_flags>
</cc_config>
There's a digit 'one' between <sched_op_debug> and </sched_op_debug>
More information to cc_config you can find here.
In BOINC Manager (Advanced view) select menu 'Advanced->Read config file' to activate the new configuration.

Gruß,
Gundolf
