Cosmology@Home appears to be (partly) back in action. You can now upload completed units from your computer and get credit for these.
However there are no new units available for download yet.

Milkyway@Home possible outage warning

Possible Downtime

April 8, 2009
There might be some downtime this afternoon as we should be meeting with labstaff to get the MilkywayGPU@Home project up and running. I'll also be posting CPU code for the GPU application this afternoon so the people who have made the GPU application for the ATI cards can get their hands on it and modify it so it works with ATI cards. We should have the CUDA code out sometime this week.

Einstein@Home has database trouble again. I'm sure their people will be on top of that once they wake up. In the mean time you can't report work, get new work, or visit their forums.

Hi, happy Easter. In perfect timing, it seems that we had a power cut and the server is down. I am not sure if we can bring it up before Tuesday morning. We will be probably change the deadlines so people will be able to get credits.

Einstein@home update

I just received word from David Hammer. He told me that the database server was trying to use too much memory and therefore it was shut down. They're looking into it now and will put up a news item with an expected time to fix on their web site at http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/

I'm sorry. A faulty batch of work I gave out crashed the database at Hydrogen@Home. I am waiting for Jack to wake up, before we can tackle that.

CPDN main project

Here's the server status page. Milo has disabled two servers and two others aren't running. This has happened at a bad time and Milo doesn't yet know the cause of the problem so we will need to be patient.

Some of us have for several days been intermittently getting BOINC messages like the following when uploading trickles:

12/04/2009 04:00:36|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
12/04/2009 04:00:58||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
12/04/2009 04:00:59||Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.
12/04/2009 04:01:01|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request failed: Server returned nothing (no headers, no data)
12/04/2009 04:02:01|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
12/04/2009 04:02:06|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request failed: HTTP internal server error

If you cannot upload trickles or files please if possible suspend BOINC network activity for the time being.

Hydrogen@Home is back up, although Jack is busy cleaning out the server. The disk was filled to capacity. Work flow will resume in about an hour (15:00 UTC)

Milo has the servers all up and running again, but the CPDN-BOINC pages are still sometimes very slow to load so the servers, particularly climateapps2, are probably not problem-free.

It looks like Seti@Home just went down. We'll be monitoring it. Perhaps they wanted to follow Einstein this time around. :-)

Einstein remains down with no estimate for its return to life. This time, uploads seem to be safely happening so I guess the upload server is not involved.

The last information I've seen (more than 24 hrs old) is that the database itself seems fine but that the DB server ran out of memory. Apparently the server is setup so that mysql can use almost all the memory on the server. It is thought that a database backup might have run into trouble (database is growing) and pushed some of mysql into swap and things have gone downhill from there.

The problem is being worked on.

Cheers,
Gary.

CPDN main project

Uploads and downloads continue to be very variable in speed, so you may still be seeing the sort of BOINC messages I quoted above on 12 April. The CPDN web pages and forum sometimes still load so slowly that they time out. Milo's going to reboot the server (I think climateapps2) on Tuesday 14 April and may need to investigate further. This means there will be an outage.

Milo has run a series of tests to find out what caused the recent server problems. These have revealed a motherboard fault.

The project will be unavailable until the board can be replaced. We are unable to say when the server will return to normal service at this time.
