BOINC Manager -> Advanced view -> Advanced -> Shutdown connected client -> Yes -> Cancel. BOINC Manager -> File -> Exit.

or

BOINC Manager -> File -> Exit.
Start -> Run, type net stop boinc -> OK.

That's because you didn't shut down BOINC, you just closed the program that lets you see what BOINC is doing (BOINC Manager).

Turning your screen off doesn't shut down your computer :)

Hey I get the same thing too. When I exit boinc by doing File->Exit or Right clicking the boinc icon on the taskbar and then clicking on exit, boinc apps are still running (QMC, SETI, etc). Is there an easier way than using command prompt and doing net stop boinc?

I am running x64 Vista, Boinc 6.2.18

If this is the case, then you're running it in protected mode (the old "service mode").
When you shut down "boinc", all you're doing is shutting down the display part, not the hidden worker part. (The daemon).

Use the option in Advanced: Shut down connected client...

Isn't there a way to just close "the display part" and that will also stop boincing? Instead of having to go to advanced every time.

Yeha, do what Ageless said, it solve this problem.

To reply to Nicolas...in the .16 version,
shutting down the BOINC manager stopped everything. There
was no daemon.

There was a daemon, but it all depends on whether or not you installed with the protected application execution on or off. Off = no daemon. On = daemon. (or service)

Angeless's methods don't stop boincing just by closing the display part.

How do I know if I installed the daemon (service)?

Hmm, okay so I have the daemon. How do I disable it or turn it off or whatever?

If you mean "temporarily switch off", do as Ageless suggested:

BOINC Manager -> Advanced view -> Advanced -> Shutdown connected client -> Yes -> Cancel. BOINC Manager -> File -> Exit.

or

BOINC Manager -> File -> Exit.
Start -> Run, type net stop boinc -> OK.

If you mean "get get rid of the daemon", do as Ageless suggested (after uninstalling BOINC):

There was a daemon, but it all depends on whether or not you installed with the protected application execution on or off. Off = no daemon. On = daemon. (or service)
