I updated my manager to 6.2.17. I did seem to work - all project data are moved to new location, etc. It doesn't work though.

Icon in the tray has little red dot, and when i hover over it, displays message "Not connected to the client"

When i start manager by hand, it tells me it can't "connect to BOINC client, would you like to try to connect again". Clieck Yes - a minute later same message. It was running/connected to localhost/127.0.0.1 before.

I found out that service didn't start. So above message is justified.

When i try to start service manually, it reports:
"Could not start the BOINC service on local computer. Error 1067: The precess terminated unexpectedly.

Any advices?
WinXP, admin install, for all user: NO, screen saver: YES

Did you install the data directory to a separate directory, not point it to be a subdirectory of your BOINC directory again?

Can you try an uninstall/reinstall, or repair install?

Also make sure that both boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe are still allowed to pass through your firewall.

Yes, data dir set to C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents\Local\BOINC
All my tasks in progress were moved there, no errors were reported.

What is repair install? Installing same version?
What is going to happen to unfinished tasks?

Also make sure that both boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe are still allowed to pass through your firewall.

boinc.exe is listed as exception. boincmgr.exe is not, but that didn't create problems before. Besides, main problem seems to be service not starting.
Security/Permissions?
