I have just installed Boinc 6.2.14 and I still get the message when starting Vista that a program that auto-starts has been denied permission to start. I have to click the taskbar notice to authorise the program to begin.

I uninstalled the old version of Boinc (which, of course, always did this), reset the PC then installed 6.2.14, but still get the same message.

Does anybody else have this problem, or any idea of how to resolve it?

Cheers.

1. With what install option did you install BOINC? (Default or did you take off the protected option?)
2. To which directory did you install BOINC?
3. To which directory did you install BOINC Data?
4. Which Vista version do you have?

Sorry, I should have provided that info....

I have Vista Home Basic and installed it with all the default options with the protected mode switched off.

From what I can recall this means that the program is installed to program files/boinc and the data to program data/boinc.

Thanks.

I have Vista Home Basic and installed it with all the default options with the protected mode switched off.

When installed in the unprotected mode, BOINC will start up with BOINC Manager only. Meaning that a shortcut to BOINC Manager will be placed in your (All Users\)Startup folder. Which may still cause trouble as Windows Defender sees this as a problematic program as it tries to start up at/after/during/whatever (;-)) Windows startup.

Try to delete the shortcut to BOINC Manager from your Start->Programs->Startup folder. Or move the shortcut to your quick-launch-bar. Then wait next time for Windows to have fully booted and click the BM icon manually. Then BOINC should start without any problems.

Do know that BOINC will only run as long as BM is open. When you close it, BOINC ceases to run.
