On multiprocessors, use at most
Enforced by version 5.10 and earlier 2 processors

This would only allow 2 core on a 4 core processor to be use. This is what I have been used until this morning when I upgradedto 6.2.14.

On multiprocessors, use at most
Enforced by version 6.1+ 50 % of the processors

After the upgrade I have to suspend the WUs that are in violation of the perfernces.

All my perference including the default are set to

Suspend work while computer is on battery power?
(matters only for portable computers) yes
Suspend work while computer is in use? no
'In use' means mouse/keyboard activity in last 3 minutes
Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last
(Needed to enter low-power mode on some computers)
Enforced by version 5.10.14+ --- minutes
Do work only between the hours of (no restriction)
Leave applications in memory while suspended?
(suspended applications will consume swap space if 'yes') no
Switch between applications every
(recommended: 60 minutes) 60 minutes

On multiprocessors, use at most

What is this override file?

The cause of your problems. Open BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Preferences and click Clear.

Now your web site preferences will be followed.

The Advanced preferences (in the override file) override the web preferences. I bet that in these preferences it says to use 100% of the CPUs. You probably looked in these prefs at one time or another and clicked OK on your way out. This saves these preferences.

If the web site of the project has a setup that has Home/work/school and default, why have Preferences. I have never looked at advance,I just assume the app worked like ver 5.10.

I also noticed on all my projects web sites this setting:
On multiprocessors, Use at most Enforced by version 6.1+ 50 % of the processors was change back to 100% . Is this possible? Could the app apply its setting to the website accounts?

Thanks for clearing my confusion

To override the main preferences on one computer only. If you want one computer out of your farm of 30 or more to behave differently, you can use its local preferences.

It's also a bit simpler if you only have one computer and you don't want to go through the web-based preferences each time you want to change something.

I'm having a similar issue with the upgrade to 6.2.14 in that it will now only recognize 1 core, not the two previously used on a 2 core machine.

Version 6 went to a new format for this. You need to set the "use at most x% of processors (cores)" preference. The old number of CPUs preference is ignored by version 6 clients.
