Running BOINC 5.10.45 Under Ubuntu 8.04 I have noticed that under the XFCE Desktop Environment (Xubuntu) Web Pages (Help or SETI@Home Status Pages) FAIL to Open!!! Where as under Ubuntu's Default Desktop Environment (GNOME) BOINC is able to Open Web Pages (Help and SETI@Home Status Pages)... If there is something "Particular" about running BOINC under XFCE under Xubuntu 8.04, what is the "Solution"???

BOINC looks for the default browser that the OS says it should use. If none is set, you have to set up the default browser.

I have tried setting the BROWSER Variable with Firefox2, Firefox3 & Seamonkey installed as the Web Browser, but the pattern remains the same... On the first occurence the Mouse Cursor spins for a several seconds, nothing opens although BOINC's Status Window does display a Text Message stating that the Browser is Opening (while the Mouse Cursor spins)!!! Then on following occurence Mouse Cursor spin in very short in duration and still NO Browser Windows open??? This is under Xubuntu 8.04 with the XFCE Desktop Interface, where as under Ubuntu 8.04 with the GNOME Desktop Interface the Help and Status Windows open as expected...

Running the BOINC Manager from the Command-Line I noticed an Error Message mentioning a Failure to Load the Epiphany Browser!!! I used Synaptic to install Epiphany and BOINC is now opening Brower Windows for me!!!

BOINC does NOT seem to be observing that BROWSER Variable... If that is the Case is there a way of having BOINC use something other than Epiphany as its Browser???
