July 17, 2008 Launch of GPUGRID.net, BOINC on GPUs
Finally GPU computing on BOINC! After delivering BOINC on Playstation last year, we are happy to announce that from today we are are able to distribute workunits on Nvidia GPUs. PS3grid.net and the new website GPUGRID.net go along to create a large infrastructure for biomolecular simulations. To run GPU workunits simply follow the instructions on the website. Apart from us, this was made possible by a strong collaboration with BOINC developers and in particular David Anderson at Berkeley and Stefan and Keith from the BOINC community, already moderators at ps3grid. We also want to thank Nvidia for their important support.

Actually the right link is http://www.gpugrid.net, but if the .org URL also works, it's fine too... ;)

All links that work and go to the same place:

http://www.gpugrid.net
http://www.gpugrid.org
http://www.ps3grid.net/PS3GRID/

I even tried http://www.ps3grid.org and it automatically changes to the last link above.

Well... ps3grid.net and gpugrid.net aren't the same - look at the upper right corner. On one site you see a PS3 on the other site a graphics card... ;-)

But that's just the content, not the look.

Doesn't the look matter far more then the content? ;) ;)

They're all called PS3GRID according to the tab name in Firefox.... Even the one with the videocard. So if you want them to be different, make sure FF shows them as something different. ;)

I've noticed it too, few days ago, but only because of the two differing pictures :-)

As all four links point to the same 193.146.190.61 (property of Institut Municipal d'Investigacio Medica), I wanted to check the reverse mapping: "** server can't find 61.190.146.193.in-addr.arpa: NXDOMAIN" :-(

But the generic URLs seem to be "When prompted, enter http://www.gpugrid.net" and "When prompted, enter http://www.ps3grid.net/" (although the latter one immediately redirects to http://www.ps3grid.net/PS3GRID/ - ambiguous or confusing, call it as you want).

Just a question ...

Does the GPU/CUDA functionality in BOINC handle things like the nVidia Tesla setup? (3-4 Tesla cards, quad core CPU and RAM to burn) There's a link to GPUgrid in the CUDA application pages but I've been told (by an unverified source) that BOINC won't handle that many GPUs. I'd just like to clarify.

Don't know if BOINC would run on a Tesla setup, but it should be ale to handle the GPUs. GPUGRID also has a box with four GTX 280...

But from a chat with Gianni, I can say that Tesla cards aren't faster than normal GTX 280´s on GPUGRID, but more expensive. They only have more RAM...

Actually they're designed to be run as crunching engines and as such have better cooling and more durable construction. Then there's the issue of error control.

I believe they are considerably more expensive than their pretty-picture-making counterparts, but not without some benefit when it comes to 100% 24/7 operation.

GPUGRID has new Versions also for LInux:

"New applications for Windows and Linux released. CPU usage is now close to zero, so that you can keep crunching other CPU projects as before while also using the GPUs in your mach"

In addition to 2 active WUs for my 2 cores, a third WU is now also active using the GPU.
BOINC 7.2.42 (x86_64) on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (64 Bit), AMD APU 7850K 3.7 GHz, 32 GB RAM.
