Hi,

one of the first projects was SETI, which searchs for extraterrestrial intelligence. But most important, I think, is the search for near Earth objects, which can threaten our life on earth.

Is there no project like this in the pipeline? It should be as easy to realize as SETI was.

bye

There is, it's called Orbit@Home. Do read the forums before you attach.

The URL is (was) correct, just project is still not really active yet, it is in the (re)launch phase after obtaining a financial grant from NASA.

fyi: Arecibo Observatory is used for NEO's

In November 2007, The Planetary Society urged Congress to prevent the Arecibo Observatory

from closing due to insufficient funds[9], since the radar contributes heavily

[10] to the accuracy of asteroid impact prediction, and they believe continued

operation will reduce the cost of mitigation (that is, deflection of NEA on

collision to Earth), should that be necessary
