Carnegie-Mellon has a project to digitize old texts by making them part of a CAPTCHA system. The user is presented with two words, one known and one unknown. If the known one is typed correctly, what is typed for the unknown is taken to represent it. As with BOINC, there has to be redundant confirmation.

It seems to me that this would be the appropriate CAPTCH system to use for protecting BOINC forums against spam.

BOINC is now moving into "human computing" or "distributed thinking" (or brain-based BOINC :P we need libreadmind!)

See [trac]wiki:BoincBasics[/trac].
