Running with 5.10.18, WinXP. Like the new icon! I have a minor issue with the Boinc manager, though. When it starts up, it does not remember its placement on the screen (it never has, even though it saves this info), and since 5.10.17 (maybe a version or two earlier), it no longer remembers its size.

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a way to start a particular work unit instead of letting Bionc choose one at random. There have been times when I had a work unit that was almost finished, however Bionc would choose to start 2 different work units (I have a Dual Core System). It would be nice if I could say right click with the mouse Choose to tell Bionc to run the work unit I selected.

I forgot one thing in the last post. - If you have a system with Dual monitors and you tell your system to you the Bionc screen saver it only displays the screen saver on one monitor, on the other monitor it just says loading Boinc Screen saver with the Bionc logo, which stays in one place. So I can't use the screen saver as it would burn the Bionc logo into my second monitor.

Other than to Pause/Suspend the running results, no, not at this moment.
It is due to how the Task scheduler works. When you get new work in, it calculates according to the debt values in client_state.xml if these results will end in time for their deadline. If they won't, they get selected to run immediately.

We're busy though trying to work the developers into such a manual option. Don't expect it any time soon though.

That's all right. I did add to my previous reply about the manual option to run a task.

I've had similar problems the past weeks, after reboots. That tasks got stuck at between 6 seconds (!!) and 2 minutes from the end, because something else started up. Oh well, eventually it'll work as I want it to. ;-)

And my WISH LIST -- I have two screens. Can I get two screen savers from BOINC? Or is that for each project? Windows XP screen saver goes to two screens.
Thanks,
John

Hi,

1.When I suspend a Wu that is slowly downloading (marked as 'downloading'), nothing is indicating me if the Wu is suspended (will not be crunched) or not.
So It would be nice to see 'Downloading, suspended' in the manager.

2.I'd like a advanced feature: a button to run the Wus only according to the Ressource share, without taking into account the deadlines. (would be great for A/Beta testing or for people that don't like the way the scheduler works)
Boinc would just be "round-robinning" among the attached projects without taking the deadlines into account and without downloading new work.

Maybe this has been suggested before. To be honest, I haven't scoured all the threads. Anyway...

Most of my machines are attached to 40+ projects. There are occasions where I want to do the opposite of a couple of the project buttons. For example, I want to select a project and click a button that does

o Suspend all *other* projects

o No new tasks for *other* projects

To do either of these today, I have to individually select another project, then click the button, repeat 40+ times. Ugh.

Recent Boinc Manager already supports multiple line selections. If the buttons would stay clickable, then the intuitive way (like in current BoincView betas) would be to select all-but-the-one project (with 1-2 mouse draws and one CTRL button press) and press the appropriate button.

Exactly! Why allow multiple lines to be selected, and then not allow anyone to do anything with that selection?! It's crazy!

My little wish ... transfers screen worked like messages, keeping a scroll back and offering copy all/copy selected like the message window.

All, well almost all transactions and activities are captured and can be expanded by setting flags in the cc_config.xml. The one I'm missing is the acknowledgment of the 'Ready to Report'. The log gives 'reporting x tasks' but no recorded confirmation. Other than that, all the uploads and downloads are logged in the message tab. I see no point in having multiples places showing this.

With a service install in vista (perhaps in BOINC version 6), can it be installed as "Automatic (delayed start)" instead of "automatic"? This will hold off starting the service until all the regular services have loaded, thus reducing the impact on the system when rebooting or from turning it on. Also, you can further reduce system impact in Vista by having the BOINC apps run with "low I/O priority" and "low memory priority". This will give greater priority to tasks the system and the user are running. Lastly, is it possible to have the task auto restart if it unexpectedly stops? I see it as an option that you can manually set, but I do not know if programs can set this when they are installed.

...service install...

If someone is going to address the above,
then how about also....

How does one VERIFY that the service starts and runs **BEFORE** anyone logs on (where username/password login setup)???

For example, after a power outage the machine boots up but no one logs on. Is the BOINC service running? It should be, but how to verify that?

Maybe the BOINC log will show earlier start time than when one logs on???

Correct. You can either log in and look at the logs, or use BOINC's remote access from another comp on the network to look at it.

I do have an issue with the delayed start on some of the older systems that auto log in when the comp starts up. If I have the BOINC manager to start when I log in, the service is not always running yet because other services are still loading. In this case, the manager will manually launch the BOINC process like it was installed as a single user. This is why I suggested using it with BOINC v6 for a service install is the only option and the manager can be rewritten to take that into accordance by not launching BOINC on its own.
