BOINC has occupied almost 100 GB on my hard drive, and demands more:

climateprediction.net: Notice from server
UK Met Office HadAM4 at N216 resolution needs 662.64MB more disk space. You currently have 1244.71 MB available and it needs 1907.35 MB.

Rosetta@home: Notice from server

I think I had this happen before, but can't remember how I got out of it. I'm running Linux Mint, and I'm not exactly a power user but I can kludge my way around. A cursory search of the forums and Google doesn't give me any results that seem to fit my needs.

Any help?

If your computer has crashed a lot of climate models, then there'll be lots of left over files, because the program never got to the clean up point.

Four quick points:

1) The messages refer to disk space. We usually try to keep 'disk space' and 'memory' problems distinct, because they have different causes and different solutions.

2) Les has a good point - you may have several failed tasks. Check the CPDN website (your account) to see if that's happened.

3) Try to find out why they failed. The commonest cause is the absence of the required 32-bit compatibility libraries. There are guides for installing them on major Linux distros, again on the CPDN website.

4) Once you've found and eliminated the cause, the quickest way to recover the wasted disk space is through BOINC Manager, advanced view: on the Projects tab, select CPDN and click 'Reset project'.

Similar considerations will apply to Rosetta, but I don't know that project so well.

In addition to what Les and Richard have said, check how much space is on your hard disk. How much is BOINC allowed? You can change that by going to Options>computing preferences>disk and memory. With seven tasks running and a further 9 downloaded and waiting to run, CPDN on its own is using a tad over 17GB of disk space on my machine. If I were to try running even more tasks up to the maximum of 16 that would over double. Climate models are large and especially if running more than just the one, you are likely to find yourself running out of space based on the figures you give. I like to ensure BOINC has a minimum of 50GB to play with but that is partly because some tasks in testing have been even substantially larger than anything currently on the main site for CPDN.

Edit: I notice that Rosetta is using up 1.65GB with no tasks, (running, waiting to run or waiting to report) and no crashed tasks that need cleaning up.
