@boboviz
Another important information to include in your guide is that VM has to be activated in the BIOS of the computer in order to install WSL2. And how to do it.
As I imagen that the guide shall be used by less experienced Windows users like me – I never installed a VM machine or used PowerShell before – this is an important part missing in your guide. This step was not obvious to me!

Uh, my fault.
I will add that.

P.S. At the beginning of the guide i wrote that cpu must support virtualization...but you are right, i have to write this better.

Thank you for all your work on this. I don't know how much difference it will make to CPDN or anyone else in the same position in the future though. I get the impression the vast majority of users never read the boards to find out such things!

This might well be true! Most people run the project with as little effort as possible. I do the same on some “filler” projects, if they run its ok, if not I move on.
But if just one of the more interested Win10 users with a few computers at hand installs WSL2 on his computers to run CPDN, it is a win for the project – beside it has to be one of the more engaged participants as the computer should run 24/7 otherwise WSL2 might be a hassle.
And on a final note, I tried it as a learning experience as BOINC does since 2004.

Having tried both and seen some CPDN work units through to completion now (as of yesterday) I can confirm that it's the WSL version that is key. World Community Grid works fine on WSL1, CPDN does not. Thanks all for the help. The computer's had a few meaty tasks for my own work (a week or so each), but all the rest of the time it's churning out CPDN. My laptop's set to do WCG when I'm not looking :P

Very happy!

Odd observation: running CPDN under WSL2 has so far been more reliable, in terms of task failures, than on an old native Ubuntu machine I set up for comparison.
