We made the BOINC web site smaller and simpler. Material for scientists and developers was moved down a level. Volunteers are directed to Science United in order to encourage new projects.

Have you made it possible for Science United volunteers to interact with projects - preferences, message boards, friends, private messages - yet?

For those who like control over their computer, here is where to get BOINC without signing up to Science United.

Apparently BOINC has been killed. Time to turn off the computers.

?? The link to boinc client is still on home page. And Science United uses Boinc client.
So, why turn off our computers?

At first glance you will think you're on the Science United website, because that's the main item here. Instead it is the BOINC front page, but the download link to the actual program is a small link, almost as an afterthought. This while the big button is for Science United which has its own website and front page.

I would expect to find a big download BOINC button on the BOINC front page, just as it used to be. Go to any other website which is for its own (named, brand) product, will you find when you get there that it advertises a completely different thing with a small link to the actual product? No. So why that need here?

Everyone should use Science United apparently. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if both pages will be combined in a near future.

If this "pushing SU" continues here on the BOINC site, I'll uninstall the normal BOINC client, and install the WCG BOINC client instead.
Why, oh why, try to fix something that isn't broken???

I agree. The link to boinc client is too small.
But, if i'm not wrong, i remember that SU receives funds from NSA....

I think that was presented as NSF, but you may be right.

Maybe you're right. But the point is: "follow the money" and money is for SU and not for Boinc.
But please, reintroduce the button for download boinc client.

Like Noel Coward, "Television is for appearing on, not for watching." I forget the exact quote.

My main issue with Science United is that I can't control on disabling GPU workloads being sent to me. I mainly have a laptop that I use for crunching and if I get tasks that are both GPU/CPU then my laptop overhears or Tthrottle pushed down the processing to the point of it not doing anything.

I posted that a couple of times on the Science United community page, but it does not seem like anyone is making that change.

I don't like the lack of control either, but that's one you can do something about.

Look in the 'Options' section of Client configuration, and you'll find the three possible types of GPUs listed:

<ignore_ati_dev>N</ignore_ati_dev>
Ignore (don't use) a specific ATI GPU. You can ignore more than one. Requires a client restart.
<ignore_intel_dev>N</ignore_intel_dev>
Ignore (don't use) a specific Intel GPU. Requires a client restart.
<ignore_nvidia_dev>N</ignore_nvidia_dev>
Ignore (don't use) a specific NVIDIA GPU. You can ignore more than one. Replaces <ignore_cuda_dev/>. Requires a client restart.
Check your existing logs to see which type of GPU you have. Make a cc_config,xml file to ignore device 0 (zero) of that make. That should prevent the overheating.
