I am trying to set up Boinc on my Chromebook. I successfully installed Ubuntu operating system and successfully download the BOINC manager. However the BOINC manager keeps showing the above error, anyone has experience of this error and knows how to solve it? There is no other error message so I don't know what went wrong.

Against some people's recommendations, I do use Gianfranco Costamagna's PPAs, and it has always worked flawlessly.

Does that mean adding that PPA boinc will successfully connect to the core client?

It'll allow you to install the latest client.
Uninstall Boinc,
sudo apt purge boinc

and follow the guide.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:costamagnagianfranco/boinc
sudo apt update
sudo apt install boinc

The Manager should connect to the core client if the core client is capable of running on your CPU, and is actually running.

seem like sudo apt purge boinc didn't uninstall the boinc manager? I still see the boinc manager after the command?

Also my boinc still can't connect to core client even after I download the latest version using those four command

Suddenly sudo apt update not working. It says method http has died unexpectedly. Did some research online and didn't find a good solution to my problem

Searching the web seems to indicate that's a Chrome Book problem.

Have you tried running

to confirm the client is running?

There's something deeper going on.
Does your chromebook have full Linux capabilities?
I know some chromebooks are locked with Chrome, so you can't install any other OS on them (unless if it's ran from an external drive).
Also, what CPU does yours run? An x86/64 CPU or an ARM based (Eg: snapdragon, AMLogic, or other) CPU?
