I closed down BOINC after stopping computation, checked to see that the client had indeed stopped then ran

do-release-upgrade -d

Since the restart, I have been unable to start the manager. Tried removing and re-installing. (7.16.3 the version that comes with ermine) to no avail. Now trying installing from source to see what happens.

Edit: I suspect the answer to this is rookie type simple once I know it.

Edit2: If no joy by tomorrow will do a clean install of Ermine to resolve this.

After fighting to get 19.10 installed, I ran out of time to get BOINC installed. Tomorrow will continue setting it up for testing.

Being rather impatient, now doing a clean install. If anyone has ideas about what might have happened would still be interested as I have another machine still to upgrade which if I don't get answers will mean waiting till the work on it runs out. - Don't really want to risk losing testing work.

Edit: Now running after clean install. For running 32bit tasks one of the libraries needed has been updated lib32stdc++-7-dev rather than lib32stdc++-6-dev as I found when trying to install the latter.

Yes, I expect there to be dependency issues. I can compile the client and manager on my own if I need to. Curious whether BOINC will "run out of the box" on Ermine.

Ran out of the box on a clean install.

Thanks for the update. Good to know. I haven't relaunched that development partition again yet. It was enough of a fight to get it installed. Wasted several hours doing the update release method of upgrading only to have it blow up at 99% completion while it was compiling the image. Desktop wouldn't boot after the initial install and build. Was forced to wipe the partition clean and install a ISO image which went through with no issues. I lost several hours of BOINC production while I was upgrading and needed to recover the RAC.

Need to get back in and configure my normal apps and test BOINC and the special sauce app out for Seti.
