Andy Bowery wrote:
The CPDN project is now offline. I will be taking a database dump of the database in order to resurrect the master-slave relationship on the two database servers in the project. In order to do this I need a database where no transactions are taking place. Once this is complete, it is likely we will start the project from the backup project server, rather than the main project server, due to ongoing instabilities in the main GPFS infrastructure.

And now Andy Bowery writes again:

Just to let you know that the project is now back online, rather than running from the backup project server, we are running from the main project server. The infrastructure still remains at risk due to ongoing instabilities in the main VMware/GPFS infrastructure.

And again:

As you might have noticed that the project went down again over the weekend. Again this was due to the main application machine on the underlying VMware/GPFS infrastructure. We have redirected the project services to the backup server (this is currently on HTTP only), please let me know if you have problems connecting.

The trickles are working (and have usually been working) OK. But I can't report three results, which have been pending for a few days, or get new work.
BOINC just reports that the Internet is OK, but the project servers may be down. Is there any info I can send you?

No = the people who need to know will know already. But if you want to find out for yourself why you can't report results, you can turn on <http_debug> for the Event Log, and read the header messages to and from the scheduler.

Jim

Have you been on the unsecured server all the time?
If so, this may be why you can still connect.

And connecting is all that Andy is asking about at the moment.

Yes, that could be it. BOINC is directed to: Master URL http://climateprediction.net/
But I have not connected with the server since around 04:00 UTC on 5 May, so it is not much.

That's supposed to be the address for the backup server, but it won't let me log in.

Has anyone gotten in?

I noticed that a similar address shows at the top of the page when you load http://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/
When loading it (http://ithaqua.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cgi-bin/cgi) in a browser, it returns
<scheduler_reply>
<scheduler_version>707</scheduler_version>
<master_url>http://ithaqua.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/</master_url>
<request_delay>3636.000000</request_delay>
<message priority="low">Error in request message: xp.get_tag() failed </message>
<project_name>cpdnboinc</project_name>
</scheduler_reply>

Removing the cgi stuff from the address goes to an Apache HTTP Server Test Page.

In my account it says my credit is 693,735 and before all this started it was 1,024,945 (I've finished a lot of WU's in the mean time). I'm betting someone will say this was mentioned that our credit will go down or up on some website but I honestly can't remember. Is anyone getting work units now, I can't recall if I was supposed to know that either? I'm not trying to get someone upset, I would really like to know these things.

So, we need to disconnect and reconnect using that address?

http://ithaqua.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/

Or should I add that as a new project? I'm sorry but I haven't seen much on what's been going on except here and at the user forums.

Message 86175 - Posted: 9 May 2018, 21:22:56 UTC - in response to Message 86174.

Hi Flashawk

Summarizing:

1: The project isn't working.
2: Anything that people download or upload may or may not end up being saved when things are fixed.
3: There'll be no new tasks available until the whole mess is sorted out, which Andy said weeks ago may take weeks.
4: The url being mentioned is for the backup server, using the old unsecure address. (http instead of https)
5: There's no need to try and get into that address unless you're bored. :)
6: Andy is still having trouble getting it to work, and I'm passing on notes to him.

7: After which, it's up to the uni's IT people to sort out the campus wide instability. (And I have a sneaky suspicion that our massive data base is the cause of it.)
For one small research project, in one of the uni's departments, we do seem to give them a lot of head aches. :)

Thank you very much Les for taking the time to explain it all to me, I know you get frustrated having the same problems all the time. It doesn't help with dummies like me making noise and wanting an explanation, I apologize for that. I thought they were some how getting WU's through the other URL when Byron threw up a link to FAQ's, all that did was thoroughly confuse me.
