I have three computers running Boinc and projects Seti@home, Asteroids@home, Einstein@ home and World Community Grid. This unit and another have the Boinc software recently downloaded (after work done by Geek Squad who wiped then reinstalled Windows) as well as the four projects. Everything runs great on two of the units but the one I'm writing this on keeps disconnecting whenever the system is supposed to run. I've tried reloading the Boinc software and then adding the projects again with no difference. Don't know anything that can be the next step.

Oh, and I have no idea what the difference between just installing it and running it as a service. I know just enough about computers to get in a world of trouble if I randomly try to fix things.

I'll add a ton of info to see if it's something you fine folks can uncover. I'll be happy to acquire any other info that may be needed.

What do you mean by “disconnecting when its supposed to run”? Is the manager not connecting to the core client, or is not computing when in use or something else?

Your BOINC preferences have it set to not compute/not do network activity when in use and not compute when non-BOINC CPU use > 25%. You can change those through Options in advanced view. Given its a Pentium at 1.1GHz it probably uses more than 25% to do anything.

Message 85112 - Posted: 11 Mar 2018, 6:26:41 UTC - in response to Message 85109.

Let's see if I can be a bit clearer. When I start Windows then open the manager I see at the bottom of the interface.that Boinc is connected to a numeric address (?) and all of my projects appear and prepare to run. I have it set for one minute of inactivity to start computations.

The first time the minute passes the boinc goes to work and the screen saver just flashes the graphics then switches to "Boinc Is Not Running". I have to Restart Windows to get it connected again until it starts to work then doesn't.

Your suggestions are excellent ones. The problem is that the mere act of opening the preference controls is all it takes to come back as Boinc disconnected

*Sound of head thumping on wall*

(As an aside, my WIFI works great on all the other sites I visit so I don't think my Laptop's WiFi would be the problem).

Oh, and I just set the screen saver to None to see if that helps but now I have to reboot to open it again. As it's late for this old boy I'll come back tomorrow and report on the last effort and to see if someone has an Epiphany. :)

Is it sleeping after 1 minute? I don't use screensavers as they use processing cycles but I don't get how its seen that 'BOINC is not running' if there is a screensaver. Setting BOINC to only run while it is idle makes BOINC not running and a screensaver events that cannot happen at the same time.
