BOINC manager V 7.8.3 (64)
wxWidgets V 3.0.1
Windows 10
Processor: i7-8700K
Motherboard Asus Prime Z370-A

Hello, It's been awhile since I've used BOINC, perhaps I am remembering the commands incorrectly. My question is; when using the engine, how do you switch to different projects?

I downloaded SETI@home (was one of the original Seti@home DC members in 1999) and when I ran out of WU's, nothing was available for download. I undertook Rosetta, ran the available WU's and when new WU's were not availble to download I took on Fight Neglected Diseases. No work units were available and I downloaded World Community Grid where work units were available and the BOINC engine went to work.

This morning I found the World Community Grid running as expected and I tried to switch to SETI to see if any WU's were available but switching to SETI@home and under projects, clicking on update. Nothing happens, it did not stop WCG and switch to SETI nor update SETI. I tried the other two remaining projects with the same results. I switched back to SETI@home in the projects window and exited BOINC, hoping this would allow SETI to be engaged upon restart but upon restart, World Community Grid remained active and I remain unable to switch to another project.

Perhaps I am missing something in the command structure and am going about switching projects incorrectly?

Suggestions?

Thanks.

There is no command to switch between projects.
BOINC resorce share sose it sort of.... But it is not always as predictable or reliable as you might want....
There are ways around, but all have downsides - the most common being you have to keep doing things yourself.
First, get into the "advanced" view, tnhen to the projects tab and suspend all the projects you don't want runnning. When you want to swap projects suspend the running one and resume the one you want to run. This should only be done with great care as it is all too easy to have tasks reach their deadline and time out.
Next, fiddle with the resorce share for all the projects until they behave the way you want them to. This will take weeks or months to get anywhere near right if you are running more than 2 projects..... Something to remember is the a resorce shatre of 0 means that project becomes a "run if no other work available" project.
There are others, but I've not got my notes with me just now.
Good luck

If you have work to do still, you should figure on not getting any more work till you clear out some of that work. It might be possible you could get work if you connect or allow work from a project with short WUs since BOINC will pad your work queue with those.

Otherwise, check your event log and see if there's any messages from the projects. Be sure to visit each project and make sure all apps are selected and you have checked: "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?" If you want GPU work, make sure the appropriate boxes are checked also (nVidia, ATi, Intel).

Cheers,

~Y
