These are the BOINC forums, you can post about anything about the client, the manager (GUI), any of the tools, problems with supported account managers, problems with directories or the registry entries. But when you have problems with grcpool, we ask you to take your question directly to its makers. We do not support grcpool and have no help about it on these forums.

Grcpool is the account manager for Gridcoin, and they've taken the Account Manager concept, stripped it of anything they didn't want, and that's what you have to work with to enter their pool.

We understand that you come to these forums to ask for help about it, but that's something we cannot give. We do not support Gridcoin or any of its tools.
We respectfully request that you take problems with these to their website, forums or other means of communication.

With thanks,
The BOINC team.

You are absolutely correct about grcpool as I found out by asking some simple questions at their form and not getting any answers.

I joined 2 weeks ago and am 1/2 way to my 2000 coin minimum before I can get out and go back to boincstats and do solo mining. In the mean time I have been helping newbies like myself at their forum but it seems I am the only one interested in helping.

Thought I would show how badly things can get screwed up. First of all, grcpool has no forum of their own. The closest forum I can find is gridcoin's forum but they (moderators) do not provide help for grcpool as it is a different entity.

Here is an example of a screw-up by grcpool. I am going to show gpugrid's "request" and "reply" but the problem is the same on all projects, not just gpugrid. AFAICT the problem is grcpool.

From "sched_request_www.gpugrid.net.xml"

    <global_preferences>
    <source_project>https://grcpool.com/</source_project>
    <mod_time>0.000000</mod_time>
    <battery_charge_min_pct>90.000000</battery_charge_min_pct>

From "sched_reply_www.gpugrid.net.xml"

    <source_project>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/</source_project>
    <source_scheduler>https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi</source_scheduler>
    <mod_time>1503442910</mod_time>
    <run_on_batteries>0</run_on_batteries>

On every service request, from every project, the reply from grcpool provides parameter info from "world community grid" instead of the actual project !!!

OTH, grcpool is the only pool available for uses who cannot afford to buy (with real USD$ ) into gridcoin mining. It does provide a needed function for boinc users to get started who do not have cash to make the initial investment.

[EDIT] For what it is worth, I am not running WCG on any of my systems since switching to grcpool from BAM!

How did you get so many coins in two weeks on the pool? I have 8 GPUs going, and I have nowhere near that in almost a month worth of crunching!

BeemerBiker:

Is that message between BOINC and grcpool that you show there? If so, what did you do to get them?

Thanks

Well I am learning some issues with grcpool that are leaving me perplexed.
I have seen you other places BeemerBiker and maybe it was on cryptocurrencytalk or somewhere else.

I'm trying to get a headless Linux Ubuntu to work properly with the pool and I'm on day 4 of trial and error.

I have tasks running now...as of today... when they complete I will know if I get credit for them or not.....

If I do, I'll add an additional 40 processors to the pool so I can up my coin count....

I have 2 windows machines working there now as well.....

This looks very much like a personal problem you are having between you, Grcpool and or Beemerbiker and you should address these problems directly to the project concerned via their Forum and a PM to Beemerbiker. I doubt you will get much response here. I would hate to turn this Boinc Forum into a GrcPool Forum.

I would like to add that Gridcoin or Grcpool is not recognized by BOINC or any Boinc Stats, therefore your only choice is to ask help from your own forum.

What's with these gridcoin and grcpool hosts? If you're unfortunate to get one as your wingman then there is a 90% chance he's gonna either abandon the task or fail it. So then you go look at their list of results and 9 times out of 10 you'll see thousands of failed tasks but only 1 or 2 valids. WTF???!!!

I have yet to find one that's doing anything useful and I can't imagine how that many people can be so confused as to misconfigure that many hosts. It cannot be. The only explanation I can come up with is that membership in their group requires installing software that turns your rig into a useless lump of crap.

Has anybody looked into their origins, activities and "leadership"? I'm betting they're a bunch of Trumplings, naturopaths, scientologists, flat-earthers, etc.

I've found numerous hosts at various projects that I can only assume the Anon host is from Gridcoin that fail all or nearly all tasks like you mentioned. (The % of users/hosts that are Gridcoin vs others makes it highly like many of bad hosts are Gridcoin). Some of the work gets wasted when 2+ wingmen are bad hosts. About the only thing users can do is see if admins can ban bad hosts or if they could implement some sort of tasks limits to those hosts. Some of the pool owners respond to messages at projects if they aren't Anon.

Even though many of the bad hosts are from Gridcoin they're probably still a benefit to BOINC and the projects that the system is around. A necessary evil of sorts. Getting paid attracts a lot of users that otherwise would not crunch.
