I posted in DrugDiscovery and haven't heard anything yet, so I thought I post here to see if anyone had any insight to this... I have Mint Xfce 18.1 under a Virtualbox with BOINC 7.8.3 installed. The smina_mol2 work WAS crunching in it but then something happened and it wouldn't run anymore. I tried resetting the project and I tried detaching and reattaching, but no work occurs sofar as I can tell with BOINC manager. It stays on Ready to Run. I can get work from Universe@home and also SETI@home and those run just fine. So, I tried pausing Universe and then also with SETI to see if the DrugDiscovery work would then start moving. Nope... but here's something interesting and weird. When I unsuspended Universe or SETI, it wouldn't start running them. I had to pause DrugDiscovery and then they would start to run. It was as if there were another project's WU running but there's nothing running according to the Task Manager and there's no entries for anything. I honestly don't know why nothing is happening with running smina_mol2. I don't see any kind of warning or error messages in the BOINC log. (Note: There was some corruption with the Virtualbox device drivers WITHIN Mint so I reinstalled Mint and the problem persists.) |

Did you look at the Event Log? |

Yeah. Last thing I see from project is WUs downloading. There's no errors or WU starting msgs. Does BOINC check for a valid executable? If it was a permissions problem, I would think I'd see some kind of message, but I don't know... Sofar as I can see (on news and app page) there's wasn't a newer app released either. It's like BOINC is waiting for the app to start but nada. I was just thinking if there was something broken before, the reinstall would have fixed it. I realized I had only done a partial update on the previous install and then I think it stopped working after I did a full update including a new kernel. This time, I didn't run BOINC until I did all the updates. But it's only the smina app oddly. Other projects' apps seem to work just fine. I'm using BOINC from Gianfranco's PPA so no issues from that... |

I discovered the problem is the 7.8.3 client. I had the similar issue with Atlas@home. I noticed that some cores weren't being used for other projects even though Atlas wasn't running. I paused Atlas and the cores became available. I downgraded to 7.6.33 because I had run LHC VB tasks before. As soon as I launched the client, Atlas started running. I've reported it to the Alpha list. |
