Apple has made a security change in OS 10.13 High Sierra (released last Monday) which breaks BOINC project screensavers. I have developed a fix for this problem, but unfortunately it will require that projects relink their Macintosh graphics apps with a new graphics library and distribute the updated.

Current graphics apps will still work from the "Show graphics" button in BOINC Manager, even under OS 10.13. They just won't be visible in the screensaver.
The BOINC side fix will be in 7.8.3+, but the projects will have to rebuilt their applications in order for this fix to work.
For a lot more highly technical information on this, see this Github page.

We're now on version 7.8.4 and still having screensaver issues with OS 10.13. Is there any progress on a fix since October? :)

As it says above, it's the screensavers distributed by the individual projects which need to be updated now. Meanwhile, the BOINC "overview" screensaver can still be used by going to the "Desktop & Screen Saver" tab in System Preferences, selecting the BOINC Screensaver and, in the Screen Saver Options, setting the "Run overview screensaver for" time to the same as the "Blank screensaver after" time and setting the "Run project screensavers for" time to 0. Or you can use one of the other screensavers, of course. BOINC tasks will still run OK.

To be clear, you're saying that even if I use, say, my G-Force screen saver, Bionic will still run? I'm just understanding that Bionic runs in the background whenever the CPU is not busy, or significantly busy doing other tasks. Ah yes, I see the project elapsed time increasing even as I write this message, but I have Bionic Manager open and running. Does Bionic Manager have to be open for it to run in the background or will it do so anyway?

I sure do hope the various project managers/software writers do come up with a fix for MacOS High Sierra soon. Oh, by the way, I'm referring to SETI@home. I love watching the graphics - I have them running in its own window - just wish I could stop them from rotating. Those unaware of how to see them, in the Bionic Manager window, select "Task Commands" and in the drop down menu, select "Show graphics". A separate window will open with those colorful SETI graphics which you could then resize or go full screen with them to simulate the screen saver.
