This thread is about this wiki page.

The current Fedora release is 26, with Fedora 27 possibly being released in October 2017. The BOINC version currently included in Fedora 26 is 7.6.22. The instructions on the installation wiki page don't work as-is because of a bug that will be fixed in BOINC 7.8. The Manager is unable to connect to the Client without going through the steps described in the "If you don't want to put the password every time" section.

Other observations about the wiki page:

  • "boinc_cmd" should read "boinccmd".
  • "Advanced -> Select computer..." should, in recent versions, be "File -> Select computer..." in Advanced View.
  • The yum tool to install RPM packages is deprecated in favour of its successor dnf since Fedora 22 (but the yum command still links to dnf).

Also, due to buggy behaviour, the Manager can't be properly closed from the GUI itself. The process is left running and needs to be killed.

I've changed the boinccmd text and the Select computer text. Also removed the know issue that apparently was fixed 7 years ago.
I'm not familiar with Linux, so will leave any further changes/advice on that to someone who does know how/what.

I can only add your report about how to get out of the manager when there's an issue reported about that.
If you want write access to the Wiki, PM me with a nickname and email address you want to use.

Thank you for the reply. Please disregard my statement about the Manager not closing; it appears to only happen in specific circumstances (see this bug report).

By the way, I have yet to figure out how to properly set up an LHC@home VirtualBox on Fedora. This problem, too, stems from the fact that BOINC is executed as the special 'boinc' user. SELinux prevents that user from accessing parts of the system that VirtualBox's setup script needs. One method would be to turn off SELinux (perhaps just for the duration of the setup?) but I'd rather have a cleaner solution.
