Regrettably, I must correct you, Anniet. ;-)
Well that's made a mess of my brain.

So putting everything together - conglomerating farms and allowing them to switch entirely to plant based crops only, has done our four-footed land urchins with snuffly noses more harm than meat farming :(

Except where: sufficient wooded areas and hedgerows are left to link-up to at least 200 hectares of territory, per population; And pesticides and herbicides aren't used; And crops are rotated; And fields are left to lie fallow

And because this is predominantly not how we farm crops anymore, rural numbers have crashed whilst urban and suburban ones have slightly increased...

... where they are at greater risk of being splatted than any other mammal we splat whilst we're on the move.

And that it's not entirely good news that fewer hedgehogs are being found pancaked than ten years ago, when we consider that hedgehog numbers have more than halved in that time to less than a million,

...when there were over 30 million of them forty years before that.

.... I ned a lie don

:(

edit: I just edited out an edit

And now (rubs hands) Sir Rodney :-)))
A peculiarity of greeting yet to reach us on the rock, Mr S. Perhaps it will catch on in time.

If you mean sitting on the fence, why not say so.
If that is what I had meant, Sir, then I would have. :-) My preference to forestall judgement until a sound grip on facts is obtained, is evidently not one we share.

In UK horse racing it is common practice to shoot race horses on the course in front of the public if they fall and break a leg. Yes of course they can be saved with treatment, but they won't race again, and therefore are of no use to the owners any more. It is a barbaric practice, and The RSPCA ought to have the guts to lobby the government to stop it.
To cloak ignorance in rhetoric is not virtue.

Equine veterinary surgeons are best placed to decide - and they are the ones that do, Mr S. For the same reasons that we take the advice to euthanize a beloved family pet.

Oh do behave! 90% of your meat likely comes from that 3rd world country just the other side of the runway. You know, the one that has the worst animal rights record in Europe.

Not your finest hour Sir :-))
Without a single factual statement to respond to, Sir, I will bid you a good weekend. :-)

My apologies, AnnieT,

to switch entirely to plant based crops only, has done our four-footed land urchins with snuffly noses more harm than meat farming :(
Regrettably modern crop farming methods do indicate so.

I'm going to talk about this:

A peculiarity of greeting yet to reach us on the rock
Wringing necks and slapping each other about with gloves is how we used to warm up to each other, Mr Ffing. Rubbing hands is what we do now. It has an advantage over shaking them in that we're less likely to wobble off the edge of our island. That way, everyone and everything gets warm and really quite toasted, and no one gets dunked.

;)

My preference to forestall judgement until a sound grip on facts is obtained, is evidently not one we share.
I think some people like to leave room to work backwards from that, with reflection. Rather than forward to the wrong and/or right right-and-wrong conclusion. And sometimes something causes a stall and things turn ... pugnacious.

I know there is a very similar problem with cheetah when it comes to breaking a leg :(

But if they didn't have a jockey on top of them, how many would actually bother to run all the way round a course? In the same direction as each other? Let alone jump a hurdle if there's some tasty clover to be had. Or is that cows?

No one has to answer that.

I'm not sure we can be sure where any of Mr Ffing's meat comes from, or what's been spilled where on your map ;) but you probably are right about the finest hour thing... there are loads better places and things to have that than on an internet forum :)

I'm not going to talk about this though, because I'm still thinking about what to say when I do.

It's going to have something to do with vegetables I expect.

@ *m* thank you for the link :)

edit: there may be a doing needed somewhere but I'm hmmmmmmm... my keyboard is muddling caps lock again -

So people - that was the problem.

Some things have been absorbed - my cannibalism is one

I'm not suggesting anyone leave anything here, or there or anywhere there's a wherever - but people do seem to be tiring of the topic - and the dreaded word boring has also popped up, so I shall get that fixed asap.

Thank you to everyone for helping to make a lively thread :)
