I just set up BOINC yesterday and ran several tasks to get a feel for it, but I don't plan to continue using it for now due to the energy costs. If I wait until winter then my computer is essentially a space heater, which is not as cost effective for a whole house as central heating, but still more efficient than running the computer while the AC is on.

I didn't make this thread to tell you about myself, but because I'm wondering how many people have the same idea. Does general usage increase much when it's cold outside? Would this be a good advertising point to make for casual BOINC users?

A lot of users do contribute significantly more during the winter and shut down quite a bit during the summer months. Especially those that use GPU's in their boxes as the heat gets significantly hotter running those.
