Remove tape - I guess the system wasn't working ...

The people who drive that way are going to drive that way period

BTW what will auto braking do to police chases?

My new car has that too - well, the cheap version, where the engine only switches off if you put the gearbox in neutral and take your foot completely off the clutch pedal. That's a bit clunky, so I tend only to use it at canal swing bridges, railway level crossings, and extremely complicated multi-phase junctions. It's very pleasant to sit there in peace with no strain on the clutch leg.

If your battery is flat, or your starter motor has failed, you wouldn't have set out on the journey, would you? If it's the car's final journey to the scrapyard, you can turn off the 'eco' feature.

Mine switches the engine off if you put on the handbrake and the cabin temperature within the preset temperature range, when in eco mode. The handbook also says the battery has to be over a certain voltage indicating it is charged.

We have a similar system on our trailers, electric powered hydraulic lift decks, you can raise and lower the top deck for loading - unloading. The trailers has a voltage sensor and if the voltage drops too low they stop working, we have to start the engine to get them working again.

Most of our trailers have also got reversing sensors, these just slap on the brakes when you get too close to something, that might be handy for those that don't use their eyes when reversing but they are a nuisance when trying to reverse onto a loading bay where the trailer has got to be touching the bay before unloading - loading can start. the sensor cannot be switched off all you can do is keep pushing until the brakes release and you start reversing again - this can happen several times before you finally make contact with the bay.

As soon as the lights change a dab on the gas pedal and he is away.
If I release handbrake when the amber comes on, the car is moving, very slowly if I don't touch the loud pedal, at about the same time the green appears.

inbuilt dash sat nav doubles as a rear view camera for parking.Plus also the usual bings and bongs. That I would find useful.
Mine does that, but has a problem, if I use it, it isn't aligned correctly. In a car park it would end up diagonal and only just within the white lines, street parking nearside rear will hit kerb nearside front will be a foot away.
Still use the old Mk1 eyeball.

Especially with the new LED lights, and there being three of them in all cars, at night you're blinding the person behind you with those bright red lights. Can't look behind either because there are bright white lights blinding you. Be a little less insecure and just use no brake, or if you feel the car go forwards or backwards, the handbrake.

Which is very firmly either 'on' or 'off', and takes a discernable amount of time to switch between the two states? If the car happens to be moving when the message finally makes it all the way from the switch to the mechanism, your passengers sue you for whiplash. It's also very difficult to get the disengagement timing exactly right for, say, a hill start out of a junction into a gap in a line of moving traffic. I've got one on my new car, and I much preferred being able to ease the handbrake gradually with a directly-cabled lever, for smoother starts in particular.

I do, however, agree that high-level brake lights tend to destroy night vision for the following driver in close traffic, and I try to disengage the foot brake as quickly as possible when the traffic has come to a complete stop.

Ever since yesterday afternoon, I had a very needful thing I needed but had lost track of, and then about four hours ago, I found it!! :) It's not in the same condition it was when I'd last seen it :( but it's a lot better than I thought it was going to be :)

Here in the "sunny Midlands" its been snowing since before dawn.
Drive across the county was great for the first 30 miles. But then I met the plonkers, one managed to caused a lorry to jack knife by cutting him up then breaking hard, another failed to get up a very gentle slope, another had just got moving across a set of traffic lights and decided to stop to allow the car turning right to go in front of him much to the displeasure of white van man behind him who "politely pushed him" into the right turning car.... The last five miles took over an hour.

Down south we had a flurry first thing yesterday, then later a "mini blizzard" which lasted about 15 minutes, then it rained so all gone here.

After 10cm of snow yesterday, we had rain the rest of the day. Most of the snow was gone by nigthfall, but now it's snowing again. I see the new front is as large as Belgium and going Northwards very slowly. It's okay it all falls today, as long as tomorrow, when the house-moving is taking place it's dry (and most of the snow on the ground melted).
