A thread for those things that don't really go in any of the other threads, that you want to share with the rest, and have a discussion about, but not necessarily want to start your own thread for.

Thanks Giorgo, you've made my evening. A real bit of thinking needed here, explained in point four.

I was watching Ancient Aliens tonight, it's really entertaining what they come up with at times. This time they were going on about reincarnation.
As the show progressed we came up to the part where there's four ways to see reincarnation:

1. You die, your soul uploads to 'the cloud' and after a while downloads into a new body somewhere on this world. Can be close to your time of death, can be thousands of years between them.

2. You die, your soul uploads to 'the cloud' and after a while downloads into a new body. This new body can be any sentient being, which includes all larger animals on this Earth.

3. You die, your soul uploads to 'the cloud' and after a while downloads into several new bodies, each of which will try to finish one of the tasks that your previous incarnation hadn't done yet. This accounts for there being a lot more humans and animals on this earth.

4. You die, your soul uploads to 'the cloud' and after a while downloads into a new body. This new body can be any sentient being in the Universe. This includes aliens and alien animals on alien planets. Alien souls can also download into human bodies and other sentient beings here on Earth.

Have fun thinking that over. :)

I was channel flipping one evening and came across that show, apparently Leonardo da vinci couldn't have come up with his inventions all by himself. He was taught by an alien possibly via telepathy. Especially because the amoured car he came up with is clearly UFO in design:

I usually enjoy watching Ancient Aliens. I don't care if it makes any sense or not. Some episodes are better than others, but in general it's a fun escape.

First of all, there is no evidence that the human body or mind has a soul or essence, or anything that carries on after physical death. There plenty of people that believe in reincarnation i.e.that in some way we get re-born. They quote examples of people undergoing hypnotic regression and giving first hand accounts of life in ancient Egypt or elsewhere quoting facts they couldn't possibly have known, and sometimes speaking a foreign language they have never learnt.

Most scientists think that people sometimes naturally find an affinity with a particular time in history and subliminally collect formation about that period in conscious life, which their sub-conscious processes behind the scenes. People report near death experiences of floating above themselves etc, again no evidence that can be rigorously examined.

Programs of this nature are not meant to be taken seriously, and are on the same par as the "Was God an Astronaut" series by Erich Von Daniken. A better read is Super Nature by Lyall Watson.

Ain't it good how them program makers get 3 or 4 different theorys and jumble them together to make up a new one :-)

They will make them all the time people will watch them. And if it's on a commercial channel, the advertisers will pay to showcase their products.

It's the people that take this stuff seriously that we should be worried about.

Naw, the ones we should be really worried about are the ones who debunk all theories & concepts while at the same time believe that aliens visited the Earth :-)

Well I was being kind and left out the colloquial name for it.

Orion contains Betelgeuse which of course was the home place of Zaphod Beetbebrox from HHGTTG. But Interesting is it not that the main Egyptian pyramids are apparently laid out in exact correlation with Orion's belt? Also interesting is the ancient Egyptians fascination with Sirius, often associated with the goddess Isis, especially in its capacity as a signal that the Nile flood was on the way.

Ford Prefect was indeed a distant semi-cousin of Zaphod Beeblebrox, both from Betelgeuse. They were said to share three of the same mothers, and Zaphod introduced him to Arthur Dent as "This is my semi-half brother".

Zaphod did indeed invent the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster which was served at the restaurant at the end of the universe.

Yes that is 100% correct.

The ancient Egyptians knew that when Sirius appeared over the horizon, it usually meant bad news, not that much different from today really :-)

Chariots of the Gods? You can't mention that ET might have been on earth before, you will get admonished !!

Never got into SG1 just too far fetched for me.

On the subject:
- of Ancient Aliens, if you have never watched the show, you're not really entitled to debunk what they have to say either. With them being in their 12th season you had chance enough. No access to the History Channel? That's why people invented P2P.
- of reincarnation, I'd suggest you look at the works of Dr. Ian Stevenson. No, I won't point to any article, you can use the powers of Google, Bing or Yahoo yourself.
- of needing to be the only person who's right, correct, untouchable, 100% of the time, I don't mind you having your own opinion on things, but then do allow others to have their opinion as well.

Think you can clean your monitors with Windex?
That you shouldn't use a magnetic screwdriver inside your PC?
That when you add two 4GB GPUs that you have one 8GB GPU?
That when you add more fans for cooling, that it's going to be louder?
