Donald Trump's worldview was laid bare at the UN -- and it should worry anyone who understands history

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/25/world/robertson-trump-un-worldview/index.html
The UN was formed as a response to WW II now he wants to start WW III.

The Catholic Church is an enigma. On the one hand it is sufficiently modern and sufficiently aware of the fact of evolution to allow it's members to believe in mitigated evolution (the view that Genesis is metaphorical rather than historical, life evolved from a universe created by a supreme being) yet just the other day Pope Francis claimed priests are diddling little boys because they are tempted by Satan. He claims the solution to the problem is more prayer to overcome Satan. In other words do nothing but mutter words and hope for the best. Deplorable.

How long will the Catholic Church cling to such ridiculous beliefs? They wised up on evolution so why not this latest issue? Priests are buggering little boys because they are sexually frustrated not because of Satan. They need to get their rocks off not be told "I am praying for you". There are only 2 realistic solutions to the problem:

1) lop off their testosterone producing gonads when they enter the priesthood
OR
2) allow them to marry, in fact require them to be married

Marriage doesn't cure perversion.

It's not about curing perversion. It's about preventing a normal man from becoming a pervert. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The analysis programme on Radio4 yesterday was interesting, suggesting that it could lead to a referendum on NI joining the South. This would lead to the Tories losing their support in the commons from the DUP who would presumably self-combust when unification took place :)

I wonder whether the descendants of the original 'plantation' of (protestant) Scots in Ulster - like the DUP - will make a mad dash for 'Remainer' Scotland?

How about that Kanye West? He wants to repeal/amend Yankee Land's 13th Amendment and make slavery legal again. Does he not realize he's black? Is braindead one of the super powers he acquired when he put on the MAGA hat?

A Florida man accused of groping a woman aboard a Southwest Airlines flight over the weekend later defended his lewd actions to police, saying “the President of the United States says it’s ok to grab women by their private parts,” according to court documents.

Don't remember hearing about that one getting past congress but then not everything gets reported over here.

As I said in the SETI politics thread yesterday, decisions being made by a single individual without oversight by congress fits my personal definition of a dictatorship.

I filled out my ballot today, my state is a vote by mail state, and much to my surprise I voted for a fair number of Republicans. I guess I still believe in voting for the person not the party even though I do identify as a Democrat.

Typical ordinary cops doing typical ordinary policing ...
https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/03/us/minneapolis-racist-christmas-tree-trnd/index.html
Along with the ornaments and strands of lights, two police officers in the 4th precinct of Minneapolis' Police Department added some unusual items to their lobby's Christmas tree: A collection of street trash, including packs of Newport cigarettes, a crumpled bag of Takis chips, a cup from a Popeyes fried chicken outlet, a can of Steel Reserve malt liquor and some yellow crime scene tape. Critics say the items chosen play on negative stereotypes about African-Americans.
"These pieces of trash were deliberately chosen to represent how certain officers feel about the community they serve: that Black people are a stereotype to be mocked and the lives of those they serve may as well be reduced to trash in the gutter," City Councilman Phillipe Cunningham said on Facebook.
The department has since placed the officers on leave and has launched an internal investigation amid an outcry that the decorations mocked the precinct's predominantly black neighborhoods.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the tree "racist" and "despicable." On Friday, he vowed the officers responsible would be fired.
