Often wondered about those. Did they have aerial photos to work from?

What about the Chinese pyramids and the Astec / Myian pyramids in South America ? ( Chinese ones are in China b4 anyone trys to be a smart arse ;-) )
they are " allegedly " built on areas where it's possible to " tap " into the planets power just like Stonehenge is and plenty of other places

There's much about ancient civilisations to amaze & also ponder on, unlike today's civilisation. What will future historians be able to understand about the "Digital Age"?

The problem today is that too many can't see simplicity & when they do, end up either red faced or scream it's not possible. A perfect example is your Baalbek example followed by the pyramids. When I said aerial photos I was not referring to aircraft as such but as you clarified, an overhead view/plan.

Kites

The best example I experienced occurred a couple of decades ago. My brother returned from University & had added a second drive to his computer (the old days of 386's) He connected everything okay but it would not be seen & he needed the storage space badly, being an I.T guy.

Along comes a "truck driver" om his normal family visit & was told not to touch his system (he was touchy that way).

Well after being told that he spent a couple of hours trying to figure it out, I just stared at his system for a few minutes :-)

When he came back with a cuppa I just asked him one question:

"Did you set the 2nd drive up as a slave?"

Remember the days of IDE drives & those little jumpers?

I had already added a 2nd 40mb drive to my own 386 :-)

Who mentioned cameras? Do you know for certain that no man/woman could draw what they saw? Your final sentence proves that you cannot.

Your Baalbek example also proves that many cannot grasp that there are somethings in the past that could & were done that are beyond the comprehension of modern man.

That is all because there are those who instantly dismiss ideas & concepts that are beyond them.

As for knocking off socks, doubt it. Make youself understand that there are/were many that could do the same.

I do know pretty much for certain that man was not able to get aloft to see from above before 1783.
That is interesting. Proof?

aloft
adjective & adverb
adjective: aloft; adverb: aloft

up in or into the air; overhead.

"General Han Hsin of the Han Dynasty flew a kite over the walls of a city he was attacking to measure how far his army would have to tunnel to reach past the defenses. Knowing this distance, his troops reached the inside of the city, surprised their enemy, and were victorious."

By defintion, he was aloft was he not & well before 1783.

In the meantime we have family coming to Dinner this evening so you may carry on trying to score points if you wish, I will bid you farewell.
Ah your get out of jail card in play again, so I'll bid you happy eating with one of your own quotes:

There are many things in this world from centuries ago that we can't properly explain, nor replicate today. That is the continuing mystery of it all.

Is he as bad as a certain Englishman who conspires against all that he feels are inferior, especially the non-English?

It's amazing what one can do with a computer, no need to stack shelves for 8 hours a day, just sit back do all the work that is needed & chat with others online :-)

Oh & others can waste a lot of time researching for conspiracies.

The issue with the ancient past is that even though a fair amount of info is known, there is much that is still unknown. The biggest issue which was prevalent right into the 20th century (& it seems still slightly prevalent today in the 21st), is that many cannot accept the fact that so called illiterate savages were superior to them.

A clear example of that as pointed out is that the Nazca Lines being dated at 500BC. However, what about lost civilisations that predate even the Nazca Lines?

For example, the Indus Valley Civilisation which ended over 3000 years ago? It had grand walkways with sophisticated roadside drainage, metallurgy shops, and massive, multistory, brick hives of houses - certainly something not expected from illiterate savages in their mud huts :-)

As for string theory? There's been a conundum over that for centuries - No one to this day can decide just how long a piece is :-)

It appears that some people are preoccupied or obsessed with a certain idea, which is a known medical condition called OCD.
Yes, I'd noticed.
