I'm using AMD drivers, stuff looks ok but boinc seems to mistakenly identify my gpu as :

OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3350P CPU @ 3.10GHz (OpenCL driver vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., driver version 1800.11 (sse2,avx), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1800.11))

One small note: intel i5-3350P doesn't have a GPU so my AMD R7-250 is the only graphical card in the system.

here's the full log:

Yey solved it !

I read this thread on this forum :
https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=10398

Then I tried this :

apt-get install boinc-amd-opencl
service boinc-client stop
xhost +si:localuser:boinc
service boinc-client start

Now everything is working:

Message 76336 - Posted: 10 Mar 2017, 9:44:17 UTC - in response to Message 76335.

Since GPU computing can get the system unstable, we can make sure to set cooler to 100% in order to prevent system crash.

Here's a list of useful cmds for AMD cards (using proprietary drivers from AMD) :

For fancontrol:
- set fan to 100%
amdconfig --pplib-cmd "set fanspeed 0 100"

-set fan back to auto-control
amdconfig --pplib-cmd "set fanspeed 0 auto"

- overclocking (if your card supports overclocking)
a) get info
amdconfig --od-getclocks

b) enable override
amdconfig --od-enable

c) set new frequencies (in MHz)
amdconfig --od-setclocks=1100,1200

d) checking your card temperature
amdconfig --od-gettemperature

I found this here:

Apologies for the delay - This is quite an old version (7.2.x), and a lot of improvements have been made recently in GPU detection. This forum has many posts about this.

The repos for ubuntu should be much more up to date 7.6.31 iirc, and boinc should in almost all cases be installed via the repo.

sudo apt-get install boinc

not from the unmaintained download on the boinc web site.
