You can stick your i5's, i6's, i7's where the sun doesn't shine!

Actually... I'm not sure you can ...

I love my Nokiia 6020 and just look at this!!

3310

That does look a much better fit doesn't it? ;)

where the sun doesn't shine

That would be the tiny village deep down in a valley high up in the Himalayas.

Of course you do realise that this will become the new "must have phone".

All these so called "street cred posers" will just "have" to have one.

"Old" will become the new "cool"

Therefore defeating the object.

It's all just a way to make more money.

Well at 65 I am still using my very old iPhone 4s and and even older iPad 2, however as soon as finances permit I will upgrade both to much later and better models.

Never use a landline anymore, just need it for the router and Wi-Fi, now Three have the app even when I have no signal I can get calls and texts over Wi-Fi. (like here at my dads)

Most everyone I know has a smart phone and none of them are under 40 (most are closer to my age)

I use mine as a shopping list, bank account checker, car park payment, diary, reminder for lots of things I have to do daily, calculator, I always read emails first on the phone either in or out, check the weather forecast, check my dads lottery tickets, use the shipping app to see what vessels are due in the Solent and an alarm clock.

And if there is enough battery left I might even make a phone call or two :-)

I like to move with the times as we all know what happened to the dinosaurs

I'm past 74, and my phone is firmly attached to a wall socket, and then copper cables to the exchange.
The phone is smart though - I replaced the original rotary dial one, with one that is combined with an answering machine.
Any one who doesn't want to leave a name and number just hangs up after they get the generic recorded message. So no pests, day and night.

we all know what happened to the dinosaurs
I've noticed that there's a lot less around these days.

"Smart" phones have an advantage over "dumb" phones.

At 00:23 Tues morning, the net dropped & assumed it was maintenance. At 07:19 use smartphone to connect desktop to the Net. No info on ISP website. Called support who said no problems on the network so checked out my router & "found" a problem, so they booked an engineer visit for 24th - not happy with that :-(

Just before I departed for Addenbrookes, received a text message stating that visit was cancelled. A problem was found in the network in my area & would be resolved by 16:00.

Received another text at 14:48 stating problem resolved.

The 3310 is a dinosaur in those situations, so "street cred" is good :-)

That's all good well but to attack others because you're not technology minded...

...like Mark I got my "smart" phone on a free upgrade. Got offered the iPhone 4S. When walking, cycling, driving or on a train, it's on silent. The 3310 Is not. Any call coming in on that is either urgent or an emergency & answered when safe to do so or call returned asap.

As for street cred, aren't you doing that by broadcasting what you have?

This year's contract renewal reduced my bill, got me a "better" phone, and included yet another tablet (not having the tablet would have cost me a tenner a month). The new phone does have better battery life, the new tablet has never been turned on.
I can't find the charger for any of my collection of old Nokia, but when tried one had just enough juice in it to start ever-so briefly!

That sounds odd or am I reading it the wrong way?

I'm with Vodafone and you can now get a tablet "added" to your phone account same as Vodafone did offer "netbooks" a few years ago now .
They basicly charge you between £10 -£15 per month but usualy only "allow" 1 /2 Gb per month if you go over they charge you sh#teloads for extra GB's . End of the day the Netbook / Tablet will be yours but garentee that it's cheeper to save up and buy one than taking a mobile company up on their "offer" .

Got loads of Nokia chargers if you need one Rob .

But it doesn't seem to occur to them does it. "Gotta be seen owt an abaht wiv the gear, innit?".

I ain't exactly "old" 43 now but teenagers etc don't seam to realise how much things cost , like how society is nowadays ," if it's broke ,sod fixing it coz probably cheeper just to replace it + most contract mobiles "offer" replacement schemes for a "small" monthly charge + i doubt the big mobile providers Vodafone / Orange , O2 etc pay the price for the phones that they sell for on the high street , ( probably pay cost +5% or something like that so they can make their money )

The trouble with putting all your eggs in one basket like Bernie does, is that if you lose that phone after becoming reliant on it you are stuffed unless you have it backed up somewhere and have alternative sources of information whilst you get a replacement and load it all up again. All smartphones are is a modern electronic replacement for the Filofax.

Well of course I have a backup, as should everyone these days not only of all my contacts but of every document and picture I have, both here and on my server at home.

With an iPhone you can back up to the cloud and/or your computer. Once you have a replacement phone you do not have to "load it all up again" just tell iTunes this is your phone and it does it all for you.

As a friend of mine did after her's was stolen, I got her a replacement and she just logged on to the cloud and her new phone was updated with all the information from the old one.

You can also sync your contacts to your computer, without using iTunes, so no eggs in baskets.

Losing a phone is not the drama you seem to think it is.

...we are talking about the 75% out there that are not, they are just dumb end users.

1+1=2 however your 2 statements do not add up...

...not unless as a teacher you stop making crass statements.
