Hello,
To create a linux compatible executable, I followed the instructions here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/CompileAppLinux

Unfortunately when I attempt to run in Virtual Box it errors very quickly. A dump of the VBox log where the error happens is below.

FYI I'm running VirtualBox Version 5.1.10 r112026 (Qt5.6.2) on my Mac.

Any ideas on how to get the image working?

From this thread looks like a bug in VirtualBox. Try different VirtualBox version.
