I used the BOINC client years ago with seti@home and at that time there was an option to watch as the software was going through its calculations on the downloaded data. For me, it was a fascinating screensaver. I've recently come back and am using the 7.6.31(x64) version of BOINC manager running under Linux Mint 18 and that option can't be found.

Any chance of bringing it back?

Are you looking at Simple View or Advanced View?
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/BOINC_Manager has an image showing how to get from one to the other.
