hello,

I have several computers running windows 10 (Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10240] and Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10586])

the 2 running boinc 7.6.22 don't get the tray icon anymore.
So if I accidentally close the boinc window (as I always did), i have to bring the task manager, kill boinc manager and restart it to get access to it.

I now have to minimize only.

All my computers running the same windows version but Boinc 7.6.9 are not affected.

The code for the tray icon hasn't changed since BOINC 7.0, so it's exactly the same between 7.6.9 and 7.6.22, which means there must be something else going on that makes it a no-show. My guess is something in or about Windows 10 then.

If you look at this location in Windows 10:

Settings - System - Notifications & actions - Select which icons appear on the taskbar

Is that setting ON or OFF for "BOINC Manager for Windows" ?

In fct, the boinctray.exe doesn't have the boinc icon... maybe it';s been damaged ?

I've replaced it with the 7.6.9 version and it makes no difference.
(stopped boinc and exiusting boinc tray process, rebammed 7.6.22 boinctray.exe and copied 7.6.9 version, started it, started boinc manager: still no icon)

Despite the confusion over names, boinctray.exe doesn't, and never has had, a visible icon.

The icon you see in the system tray (old terminology) or notification area (new terminology) - or don't see, as the case may be - belongs to BOINC Manager, or boincmgr.exe

I found the problem, which is not related to BOINC or Windows but to a BOINC patch developped by my team.

My apologies.

May I inquire what kind of patch your team developed for BOINC?

boinctray.exe by the way is the idle detection program. It has no GUI, no icon, and only polls the keyboard and mouse to see if they're in use or not, telling boinc.exe all about that.

You're not the first to use a secondary WU buffer system to 'optimize'. The other instance I know sort of put the uploads in a cache, so the client could fetch more work, then mass release the results during a challenge... a Megaflush © by a certain cattle ensemble.
