Far too many BOINC projects do not offer or export badges. It is time for this to change. A full court press needs to be made at the projects who do not or have refused to implement them. In general, I only crunch projects that provide them. My lack of credit/RAC at many of these projects makes it impossible for me to post in the appropriate forums to try to stir up some action. I hope like minded individuals will take the time to apply pressure wherever they can. In this age a badge system should be as basic as granting credit. I would crunch projects I have little or no interest in to obtain badges. This can only help the projects themselves. Please join me in a goal of having at least 10 projects either implement badges or commit to do so by the end of the month.

Well... I personally don't think they have any obligation to divert resources for it. Demanding such "trinkets" would be petty of the community. I like badges, but I for one would not support the rally. The problem I see is that the projects with the newer server software would just turn on the default badges. The ones that nobody cares about and then announce they have badges like Moo! Wrapper did. Then if the developers made better standard badges built into the software, you would have people complain that the badges aren't unique and stand out. So, that would go back to the project admins having to divert their time to design or approve user created designs, come up with a system for it, and then have one more thing to maintain that really has nothing to do with the science being done. Again, I think they are fun, but I wouldn't rally troops over it...

I don't really understand the point or value of badges. They consume bandwidth, project development / server time and waste power.

If one needs to measure contribution then the RAC and # Posts are sufficient for me, i'll opt in to projects which do good science, and i'll turn off badges signature when i can.

There is a rather large difference between a demand and a request.

I like badges,

I can see that from the numerous "trinkets" in your signature.

So, that would go back to the project admins having to divert their time to design or approve user created designs, come up with a system for it, and then have one more thing to maintain that really has nothing to do with the science being done.

Someone must have hijacked your account. Is this the same Coleslaw who posted here within days of an announced beta test when of all times project admins should be busy with more important matters? That post made a lot of sense to me and actually planted the seed of this idea. I had thought you would have been one of the supporters of this idea. All it takes is a few requests of the admins at the projects that don't offer badges by interested crunchers with posting access. Your lone request at Cosmo (which I supported) seems likely to produce positive results. Why cannot the same be done at other projects?

In no way did I mean to imply a boycott or other extreme measures.

Simply put, this quote
It is time for this to change. A full court press needs to be made at the projects who do not or have refused to implement them.

does not imply merely "asking" or "requesting". It implies rallying the village people with torches and pitch forks demanding action. It implies that the masses need to leverage their weight to get something done. Re-affirmed by your statement
. I hope like minded individuals will take the time to apply pressure wherever they can.
. So, your intent may have been "guys could you go express your thoughts at projects on adding badges" but it comes across as a rally cry to demand change.

My request at Cosmology's sight was prompted due the admin talking about large changes coming to the site and project. It was also placed in a Wish List and presented as a request (not a demand) and was given reasons why it may be beneficial to a project long labeled as dead by many.

However, it was not a rally of the troops. It was a single person's request on a wish list for consideration. This is what you would label a pre-cursor to your "projects refusing to implement them".
