New Tasks Stuck at 0% Downloaded

They are sitting there in my Task window as 'downloading' but are all at 0%. I have reset the computer numerous times and have verified internet connectivity and am writing this post on said computer. Though I have not tested my connection to the download server as I do not know the path. Last modified: 12 Aug 2015, 21:26:09 UTC Seti turned one of its download servers off, it's possible your BOINC is trying to download from that server. One way to circumvent that is by blocking the server that isn't giving downloads in the Windows hosts file. To do so, open C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (it has not extension) as administrator in an editor such as Notepad. Then at the top, or bottom of this file add: 127.0.0.1 208.68.240.13 Save the file. After that exit & restart BOINC. That should be it. Setting the <http_debug> Event Log option will show you - in much more detail than you really need - exactly what is going on behind those 'transient HTTP errors'. The detail will include the url of the download server, and the IP address your machine is resolving it to. Check on your own machine, but I would expect to see some combination of boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu 208.68.240.13 208.68.240.18 208.68.240.21 I've included 208.68.240.18 although it's an obsolete server now decommissioned. If you are attempting to contact it, then you have set a manual IP address somewhere (probably in a hosts file) and you should remove it and use normal dns lookups instead. 208.68.240.13 and 208.68.240.21 are both valid addresses, although 208.68.240.13 is temporarily out of service and the load is being handled by 208.68.240.21: if your machine is trying 208.68.240.13, wait five minutes and try again. This sort of question (relating to one specific project) is probably best asked on the project's own message boards, where you can see that we covered it a few days ago at message 1709176. Still no go, I did add the HTTP Debug to my list and I tried with the 240.13 and 240.21 in my HOSTS file with a full computer reboot after changes file and regardless of what I put in there my log shows as below. The hosts file isn't a blocker, it's an enabler. Hmmm, not according to all the entries that Spywareblaster, Superantispyware and Malwarebytes make into mine. But then they add them in the form of 127.0.0.1 block_this_site.esse Hence why I thought of using that same form of blocking to block the second non-working download server. ID: 63584 ·

What those entries are saying is: "If malware wants to go to a bad place, don't let it out of the box." (redirect to localhost) That blocks the named domain. But in this case we want a particular name to go to a good place - better to give it that positive encouragement, as self-documented in the early part of Microsoft's sample file. People who do this need to remember what they've done, and be ready to undo it as soon as the need has passed. Any server operator on the internet (and not just BOINC download servers) would reserve the right to migrate the service to new hardware with a new IP address. That's what the DNS service is for, and in general it's best to let it do its work automatically - that way, things don't fall over if the addresses change again. ID: 63587 ·
