I'm not clear on how the notices in BOINC manager work or who runs them, but it seems like they could be a good way to help spread the word on BOINC. Maybe once every week or two a notice could be sent out reminding people to tell their friends and family about BOINC or the successes the different projects have had recently. Prewritten tweets or Facebook posts with a "click here to share" option would make it even easier.

My apologies in advance if this is already being done. I only recall seeing notices about badges, software updates, and some project news.

Notices are initiated by the projects as far as project related problems, PR and News.

There's one project who was plugging so much 'PR', I've detached from them. One of the irritants to tell me I've got my settings so that no work is fetched [duh, I've suspended the project and set it to not fetch work]. Don't need no darn message from them on that. 'Hello there' did I suspend the project or were there suspect gnomes out on the loose?

Sadly there was no way to stop the 'call home' in the client. Some projects force that on your hosts from few days to weeks intervals, so it became 'detach' and basta,they lost me forever.
