Things have gone downhill ever since SETI folded up.
I want over to BoincStats and made the following notes

150 Retired projects
43 active projects (unaccountably includding collatz!)
24 projects that have at least 1 work unit of data.

Out of those 24 projects with data only 9 have enough to be candidates for the next crunching contest.
Out of those 9 there are 2 that currently have data and statistics collection problems and another 3 that have their servers hosted in Russia.

Does anyone have or know of a chart of BOINC project growth / loss?
I am guessing a bell curve would show SETI at the top.
If BOINC was a company there would be shareholders looking for new management.

My 0.02c

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Email sent to Andy. No idea if this is because the work of the change wasn't finished or if there has been a problem or indeed if the server code is being upgraded after that went fairly smoothly on the testing site. I expect to hear something on Monday.

So what?

"Oh, oh, oh, it's all gone! The damn Russians will steal all our computations!111" LOL

I always hoped that those people who take part in VOLUNTARY computing are not so stupid to blindly hate everything on which an objectionable flag or prefix RU present.

So if you decide to touch on this topic, then write directly and argumentatively what exactly is the problem.

It's been many years that boinc's interest is fading out. Read this if you're not convinced.

But as long as we are here, boinc is here :)

And regarding the "3 projects hosted in Russia"... frankly... no comment.

Personally I suspect the writer of that piece is largely responsible for the decline.

For me, the "Home Page" resolves to www.climateprediction.net and everything of interest is at www.cpdn,org. And www.cpdn.org is down. The link to the real home page seems to resolve to the www.climateprediction.net now, but that is not where my browser wants to go. It wants to go to www.cpdn.org. So perhaps this home page is a fall-back address in the DNS somewhere.

Is Cpdn.org down?

You are correct the home page at https://www.climateprediction.net/ is accessible, but all of the sub pages are not accessible from the home page or from the BOINC client or directly from a browser.

Website now back up again. On attempting to update BOINC I get a message saying the project is shut down for maintenance. Nothing has appeared on moderator's email list about what is going on.

CPDN back up though no tasks apart from occasional resends. One oddity on all web pages that Andy is aware of.

WuProp database went offline about 45 minutes ago. Guessing that project is backing up the DB again.

Email sent to Andy, though I suspect he knows already.

Edit: Both website and servers. (BOINC can't access CPDN either. Testing site and servers are OK.)

Down again.
Seems to be just the website this time. project update to CPDN works normally albeit there is unlikely to be any work till the four testing tasks I am running complete in about 25 days plus however long it takes to process things assuming they complete successfully.

Edit: There may be the very occasional retread.

CPDN web pages back up again. Not sure when Andy is upgrading Server software to version: 1.4 but assuming when that happens it will be down again. No news about what the issue was so whether it stays up again or not is anyone's guess. Still at least one page with a cannot create object error but not an advertised page.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for this. At the moment we are operating the main project only from one server. We are awaiting a new physical server to act as the twin and backup to the main project server. Every day there is a backup of the main database taken, this slows/makes inaccessible the main project website at that time. This will continue unfortunately until the new physical server arrives later this month.

Best wishes,

Andy

WuProp for the 3rd day/night this week now has gone completely off line for at least 6 to 8 hours,
Today's outage started about 2 3/4 to 3 hours ago (23:00 - 23:15 UTC) based on my last task to upload.

It's one of three possibilities: 1) Database crash / restore.... 2) Database back up... 3) a combination of 1 & 2 ???

A forum topic was opened on WuProp about a month ago but yet to hear an official response from a project admin.
